Inner ear rumblings, any of you experience this ?
Original post: Manifesto
Ok, im going to try and explain this best as possible.
You ever closed you eyes, almost like squeez them shut tight and concentrated and make your inner ear rumble.
Sounds like something is shaking, not sure if this is a medical condition or something other. But everytime I goto the doc's office they dont find nothing so Im not alarmed. it's just when i almost went into sleep paralysis today and I did it, it makes a "whooshing" sound instead of a rumbling when Im awake.
Anyone familair wit it ?

You ever take a shower and tilt your head so that the water goes right into your, then your ear gets filled with water, and suddenly, sounds get all muffled and rumbly....or like when you're diving into a pool off a divingboard, and you dive deep and the pressure screws with your eardrums?
I would guess that you shutting your ears tightly is exerting pressure on your eardrums causing the rumbling sounds.....but, I could be wrong....

yes, I'm familiar with that. I've been able to do it all my life. I think it's just some eardrum-pressure-equaliser-muscle but I'm not sure.

I can do it easily. FYI, eyes don't have to be closed
I've always doen it when I do major magical workings even from a young age. Just one of those weird things *shrugs*
Probably just some sort of muscle that some/all people can mess with that f00ks up the ear drum. No idea why it's there but whatever.

my uncle experiences this "rumbling" whenever an earthquake is happening. he knew about that earthquake that caused the tsunami last year. i heard it from him before i saw the news.

"You ever closed you eyes, almost like squeez them shut tight and concentrated and make your inner ear rumble."
For me. they ring. It's kind of like a high pitched squeeking sound... I've been aware of that since I was a kid... Also I kind of hear the same thing when it's completely quiet and I concentrate on it. But it's not as loud as when I yawn or concentrate to make them "rumble". But it could be, because it just happens and I'm not forcing myself to hear it... I don't know what else to say!

Yep. I use this sound in almost all magick I do. I use it as the sound of the Kaos Thunderbolt.
edit: holding the ears closed with the fingers while tensing the back of the neck until your head is shaking greatly increases the volume of this rumbling.

It is just the physiology of the body and acoustics. There is space within your ear even when you seal them by pressing them closed. When you do that you hear the acoustics of that small space; it is like an amplification of cupping your hand over your ear. In addition, we all suppress consciousness (most of the time) of the sound of blood coursing through the veins in our ears...if you listen long and carefully enough you will probably be able to detect an ebb and flow with is your heart beating. The high pitched sound is your central nervous system.
There is a terrific account of discovering this in John Cage's book Indeterminacy.
