Before starting this thread I'd like to set out some ground rules. This thread is to discuss the practical use of drugs like xanax for ritual, meditation, and other occult practices. Please refrain from preaching against drug use in this thread.

I will begin by stating that I have been experimenting on and off with xanax for about a 1/2 a year, but only seriously in the past month or so. I will, for the moment, refrain from discussing the social effects, and stick to operational effects.
1. I have found xanax to eliminate my writer's block. Ihave found it to creat an atmosphere condusive to creative writing, and to my academic writing. I consider both of these activities to be magickal acts.
2. Xanax creates a peaceful, calm state of mind. It reduces anxiety and worry. This, I have found, to be useful in ritual. It seems to help with the silencing of the mind for meditation. It seems to eliminate those distractions that pop into the head during ritual. It seems to increase the ability to slip into trance state.

I don't know what the long term effects of anti-psychotics and mild tranquilizers are. To many people, long term effects are irrelevant. Personally, low dose DXM has always helped me to write, making the transition of of lucidity from my imagination to the text seamless. Also enough benzocain will produce vivid waking dreams, but the mind does not retain its agility.

Just goes to show that what works for one person, won't for another. When I took that, I found that it interfered with my ability to focus my will when I wanted to get out. This was only when I had used it for 4 or more days, though. At other times, I have found it useful when needing to break a cycle of habit. Where a temporary change of view let's one break the monotony. Other things work just as well for that, though. Sometimes, even a simple act can provide the change needed for a breaking point. For me, at least. If it works for you, I can't fault you for using it.

If you can just take it once and awile good for you.I personally loved xanax and got my doctor to perscribe it to me.Stayed on it for 6 years.Then my doctor told me he was going to ween me off.Me being me,just decided to pop 10 at a time until the bottle was empty and then i checked myself into a detox to go cold turkey.Worst hell in the world.Did not sleep one wink for the first week.Had a seizure in wich i was told my heart stopped for a good 15 seconds.Even the heroin addicts were amazed that i got through it,as heroin withdrawal lasts 4 days and can't kill you,benzo's take months and and can kill.Anywho,it took about 6 months before i felt normal again,and a good 3 months after that of intensive concentration exersizes to get my brain back to par magically.If you think it helps you concentrate then by all means enjoy.However if you plan on taking them daily,i advise you to find a doctor that will perscribe them to you for the rest of your life,as the success rate for quitting benzos is very low.I am all set with it.

Although I agree with you that they do well calming you down, the problem with benzos is that they also stupefy you (I found that especially true with alprazolam).
Another problem with benzos is that if you take them to aid with meditation, chances are high that you may end up falling asleep unintentionally, lol.
If you really want to try that, I would recommend Lorazepam (Ativan) since it is the most clear-headed of all benzos, IMHO.

That's interesting, Frater. I find that synthetic opiates--light ones like in Actifed and such--make visualization a lot easier. When I get a cold, I stay in. And I usually take Actifed. And so I end up staying up really late writing. I find that writing is enhanced in a very subtle, yet interesting, way simply because of the influence the synthetic opiates have on visualization.
I would like to add that these findings, I think, help verify you're own findings, Frater. As far as I know, Xanax is also based in synthetic opiates.

(Well, if you want to get too technical, Opiates do posess som GABA activity, but nothing really to write home for the purpose of this thread). Opiates work primarily on the opioid system, while benzos work exclusively on the GABA system.
In my experience, Opiates, even weak ones, are far more suprior in spiritual work than benzodiazepines are, since opiates have that visionary qualitiy that benzos lack.

Btw, you pointed out something important that I forgot: If you think weed weakens your memory, then you haven't met benzos yet. I have lost entire days of my life because of benzo-induced amnesia.
They are helpful drugs, but they are very archaic.

I have not tried 2C-B itself, though I have tried 2C-I, C, D, and E. Of this alphabet soup, I think 2C-D would be the best for ritual use. I find most phenethylamines do have a strong effect on the body - not always pleasant.

I disagree because, because even though opiates are potentially quite visionary, their effects make it difficult, and requires a lot of practice (a somewhat dangerous endeavor) in order to get value out of the experience. Opiates, I find, are a very selfish drug, in terms of focus and perception of the things around you. But to each their own.

Opiates, I find, are a very selfish drug, in terms of focus and perception of the things around you. But to each their own.
