What Good Is Reflecting?

Mainly when an insult took place or aggrivation, perhaps an accident. Why not be told of such things when one sees them? What is one to do? Does one throw charcoal to the flame or reflect? Reflecting, taking the circumstance to a bigger view. It's tough when one is denied of one's opinions. The point of reflecting is to salvate from the i'm right your wrong theme, let's hope you get far enough. Is this the aproach one wants to be known for, then should one bother oneself. In a way it is being a good samaritan. I may not always be correct. reflecting opens doors, you should know. And if one wants spirituality for oneself, hotshot, reflecting is of use. Giving a true second thought, and about any remorse. I am truly glad you are reading.

So, of what value is this? And opinions otherwise facts they will be.

For me reflecting is a way of sorting things out in your mind, of trying to be sure about what you are doing and where you are going with someone or something.

It is what I do to try to understand things if they concern me. Often it is the best place to start if I am having a disagreement with someone, I need to know what part I played in it and how much of it I can put right. It is a way to take the plank out of my own eyes before I point out someone elses blindness.

Reflection has always been a greater part of the spiritual persons life; consider the Saints and Jesus and how often they went off alone to pray and reflect. Consider the people you know who are thoughtful and wise, it cannot be so without their ability to turn things over in their minds.

You only have to look at these forums to see who reflects and who does not, it shouts at you from their very words.

Usually with reflecting I am focused towards intentions of people. By morning the next day, my mind is made up and I am wiser then.

Reflecting on the intentions of others? Isn't it more productive to reflect on your own intentions? Once I got that figured out (to a degree, I am still figuring), then the intentions of others are clearer than ever.

In reflection, a person often picks up on things that they would have totally blown by otherwise. And are we speaking of "I'm going back over the evens of the day" reflection, or "I am searching inward, as I would seek my own face in a mirror" reflection?

Thanks! I've actually been a member here for about a month, but I haven't posted much because so many of the threads seemed to be doing fine on their own! Normally, I post up a storm, but these past few months I've been doing a lot of "reflecting" of my own...been more of a reciever than a projector, so to speak! Hopefully I can become more active here in the future... It's really an amazing place.

I never reflect, I absorb.

Why reflect? A mirror reflects, it takes nothing in, and gives back the image.
I absorb what happens and is said I take into myself, make a part of me and move on... This does not mean I am not introspective.. this just means that I am always considering what will happen if I do this or that. What will happen to this person if this happens. But reflecting back on your life and who you are... I never do that. Never do anything you will regret, and always take responsiblity for your actions good or bad, so whats left to reflect about? I am always thinking about how to become a better person and other people.

Reflection is for the Nostalgic.

I look at at this way and this is strictly metaphorical and I will be the first to trash the concept. The Sun is Knowledge and Knowledge is Infinite. The Moon is Wisdom and reflects the Light of the Sun. Wisdom is Finite. It is our use (reflection) of the Light of Knowledge which imposes the limitations of our experiences. Knowledge + Wisdom = Understanding which shines as a new distant Star (birth of new Knowledge, a new Sun). This is a 360 degree cycle, or cypher. It is also represented as the Fool's journey in the Tarot.

There's no need for you to trash any concept of such.

You are writing about what your'e reading knowledge is, not of what your instinct tells you, are we clear?

I think for the most part I am confusing "reflection" with introspection. There's a bit of a difference...

Now there's the other side of the coin. The goodness of another is something to reflect on. Deal?

Not a fool or quiter.. (!)[/QUOTE]Not sure we are clear. Please elaborate on what you meant by this.:D What I meant by trashing the concept was that I view "beliefs" as disposable. When they no longer have any value I throw them away and do not cling to them as if they are sacred.

That is rather a patronizing response, and I didn't realize that reflecting held exclusive rights to compromise, what about seeing things from another persons point of view, Emapthy, self intrest and introspection... all these thing allow compromise.

DualMetal, Now your being egotistical and evasive. And refecting isn't as broad as the mind, it can only show you what you can recreate in your mind.

Which is still a valid process, in my opinion. Not everyone is born with the ability to see every situation laid out perfectly before their eyes, waking or otherwise. Figuring out the "whys" and "hows" of my Self are a bit like tweeking the intake valve on a carberator (sort of...), and reflection is part of this process. And as for how broad reflection actually is...well, isn't that up to the individual reflector to define? Nobody has the same flashlight, even though everyone's cave is just as dark.
