well this is not about the end of the world as apocalipse but about the land called in many legends or miths the end of the world, is the land I m from and that is know as Chile, and i tough it might be good to share a couple of miths or legends from this land, that while it might be young it does have some misteries ^^
let`s start with a little mith about the creation of this country we like to call the end of the world.
After the creation of the world, god realize that he had some leftover from rivers, mounts, sone glaciars etc ... and well he could not let all that go to waste, so he put them all togheter in the end of the world, creating the land know as chile.
this mith might be quite modern, and does have some versions that are more comical but still is a nice mith for start ^^
onother legend that you might know, is the one about "cabo de hornos" , the legends say that after the fight betwen good and the devil, he was cast down to the earth and chained down under the "cabo de hornos" , the mariners from old that navigated those wathers, told how you could hear in the night the chains that bind him and his screams.
well and talking about the devel we also have a couple of miths about this character, that well is present in more than a couple of tales in this thin and long land, for example the tale of "donde el diablo perdio el poncho" this could be translated as "where the devil lost his poncho" the poncho is a piece of cloathing used by the people of the rural areas in the past (and still used is great for the cold ^^ ). Is said that once the devil was sneaking into a convent to play with the nuns, under the disguise of a handsome men, he entered the cell of the most beutifull nun of the convent but the nun look at him in the eyes, the devil surprised wnet over her but the poncho was traped in the bars... later the nun till his last days claimed that the devil had taint her, and the people with the obisp tried to burn the poncho or destroy it, but proved to be imposible... after that they jut tie it to a huge rock and trow it to the bottom of one of the rivers, where the fishermen say that it still dwells and sometymes it brakes the nets...
onother tale with the devil as protagonis is more comical and is called " el roto que engaño al diablo" , I don`t think roto have a direct tranlsation so let say the guy who trick the devil...
was a night hour hero? walking at the night sighting because he was poor and was in love with the daughter of the richest men in the land, was in this moment that the devil apeared in forn of him, dresing all in white as a person with class and stile, and they make a deal, the devil would give the boy money and clothes, everithing to ge this love, in exchange for it`s soul, the boy accepted, and to make things formal, he say ok, but let`s writhe this down, and proceded to writhe " I will give my soul to the devil in exchange for all this tomorrow", both signed and the deal was done... the next day the devil apeared before the boy claiming his soul, but then the boy who was not as stupid as the devil tough, make him note, in the contract say tomorrow, so I will give you it to you then, the devil noticing that the boy has tricked him left furius in a explosion of fire...
something interesting to note, in the chilean mithology and legends, the devil apears a lot, but it rarely does as the red guy with horns, but usually as a handsome mature men well dressed all in white and with a single gold teth, the dreesing depends on the ocasion, for the miners is usually some regular clothes for a business men and a white helmet used in the mines y the bosses, while in rural areas is dressed like a "huaso" (again this dosn`t have direct translation so some research might clear that out) , in the city well is again simple elegant withe clothes and the gold theth, it always appears during the night, and the smell of sulfur is always present.
well guess this enough for now, hope you enjoyed this little tales form the end of the world, andsorry for my bad grammar and typing ^^;
