This forum has just started off, but what is being done to reach the old OccultForums members and tell them about this forum as this is probably as close to the original forum as we are going to get for a while. I know that there are several forums witch members have scattered to, and the scusess of a forum like this depends on building up the user base rather quickly, more members mean more activity on the forum witch means more pepole will register and so on, also it would be nice to see most of the pepole I got to know through Occultforums.com again. I have missed all of them through the allmost four months the forum have been done and it would be nice to try to rebuild the comunity. So what are being done to inform pepole about this site and are there anything I can do to help?

so far as i know, most of the OFers are on either Occultcorpus.com , or deathbylollipops.com , and a few even went to occultforums.net , though there's been a lot of fighting there.
if this is for real, a lot of people will be happy!

I was on Occultforums.net, but I do not think the forum was very friendly. Can we however ask those forums for premissions to inform old Occultforums.com members about this forum?

Mmh, it's a bit of a sticky situation, we don't want to go to other forums and "recruit" their members, that would be seriously frowned upon.
I did try spreading the word a bit on IRC, but it came across as spamming

But we are not really stealing members as much as trying to ressurect a forum where they where already members.

I was concerned about this too, so I didn't post a message on a forum I'm on but did PM a couple of people I knew used to be at OF. Someone at evocationmagic.com posted it publicly, is the only way I know.

The only real ways we have to get ahold of people seem to be through word of mouth, and search engine ratings.
If you really want to advertise on your other forums though, I suppose you could put a link in your signatures. I've noticed that admins almost never even bother people when they put blatant monetary advertisements in their sigs... unless they're exceedingly long, flashy, and are consistently larger than any post the person has ever made.

Posting the link to this forum at your website, at your blog or whatever else internett presence you have can be a good idea to, as when pepole then google OccultForums they are more likely to get a hit on an adress to this site.

I've been spreading the word where I can, but I was not close to many of the old members of OccultForums.com... only the chaotes. And I'm sure they'll all make their way here before too long.

I didn't really talk to people so much as I just read stuff there. I hope we can get this place alive again though.

The more search engines you are on, the more hits you get, the more the word will get out there. You will find you pick up new members too. Word of mouth is good even if it is slow. It shouldn't be long before other folks you know...stop by. They will as they hear about it.
MySpace and Facebook are good places to post links too. When I email folks I know are in the occult/pagan community..at times, I'll put the links to the main sites I Mod and Admin, as well as the sites I frequent. I see a few of them on some of the sites, maybe more will come.

I do hope we're at least a little bit selective though... I felt that OF was in decline for some time before the URL went poof. too much trolling & infighting & cults of personality, etc. It just wasn't a very enjoyable social setting, which is partly why I was inactive in the last months of OF... also i was somewhat mangled by a truck & all, and thus kinda distracted, but I could have been more active than I was, which is to say not at all. any forum has to be enjoyable to be at, otherwise its poor use of downtime, no? I enjoy this forum, now, more than the old OF honestly. But yeah, we definitely need more people, more discussion, more perspectives

Trust me, as long as I'm around, I won't let that kind of BS take over the board.
For the record though, I doubt many of the people who actually had anything worth saying had actually posted in the last 4-8 months it was up.

Just writing about the forum and posting the link to it as many places as possible makes sure that as many hits on it as possible will show up on search engines. I am trying to tell as many pepole as I can about it forum, and also post on it as often as I can. That is important to, an active forum is much more likely that a prospective member joins, than one that go days between posts. So posting like mad, rabid dogs is a good thing. Spells and rituals to draw members and support the forum can also be a good idea.
For the record though, I doubt many of the people who actually had anything worth saying had actually posted in the last 4-8 months it was up.
I don't know. I posted there until the last days it was up, and while there was indeed allot of trolling, it was still a nice forum.
