Hello Francis,
Welcome to the Forum. First, I would like to present you with some information on this text the Necronomicon. It is not an actual and historic magical text. I have posted a link to listen to a program about this subject by a recognized and accomplished Ceremonial magician. It touches on many issues.

This still leaves the central question: where to begin? To succeed on any occult path you have to have a basic skill set and a foundation of knowledge. It will take time and practice. So, the next question is one to you: are you ready to go ahead?

The Simonicon is a workable grimoire however, despite it not being an 'historical' one.
The Fifty names of Marduk have been used by many Occultists over the past few years, for one example and a quick google search on this will give you tons of useful information.
Like this,for instance:
http://www.lovecraft.ru/texts/necro/spe ... steps.html
The Fifty names are Historically valid also, just saying. [thumbup]
Digging around in the Sumerian Creation myth,The Enuma Elish, should help with verification:

http://www.piney.com/EnumaSpeis6a7.html
The Astrological information in the Simonicon is from Sumerian/Arabic sources and is also accurate enough to be useful too but it's getting more dificult to find decent sources for that on engines like Google, mostly due to all the Woo around Ancient Alien hypotheses that's doing the rounds these days,so I'll leave that for now.

What is billed as the 'John Dee translation of the Necronomicon' (a modern text, like all of them) can be workable because it does draw so much from these sources. The problem it is an imbalanced system with only these Near Eastern demons and nothing else. Personally, I think the best path for those who wish to work with these dark forces (which have their role & their place) is through the Keys of Solomon. Or, at very least, have some damned banishing so they don't hang around!

I am very ready, but I have never done a ritual with any effect and I would hate to see the more powerful ones go wrong

I'm not really looking for a debate here, but the Fifty names are not demons, they are Epithets for Marduk, the God who superceded earlier Sumerian God forms and as such they subsumed the roles of those earlier Deities.
Though,It is true the later Abrahamic systems incorrectly labelled some of these Gods as demons.
The Seven Gates are the Planets known during Ancient times,so also not demons, nor are the Zodiac signs either.
Oh and there are banishments included in the book as well as wards for protection, should the operator decide they are necessary.[They ARE recommended as necessary by the author, though that seems more of a device relating to the Cthulhu mythos stuff than anything else re: The Mad Arab.Just saying...]
All of the above is moot now though,as this below means the OP is not ready for working this way with this book,no matter how much they may feel they are.
I am very ready, but I have never done a ritual with any effect and I would hate to see the more powerful ones go wrong
So,get your feet wet first with something much easier and work your way up to gatewalking later.

Would you recommend any spells that would be suitable for me?

Nemerian,
My suggestion to you is that you first work on developing some basic skills. To go on any path these are really very helpful. I will make some video suggestions although for all of them but the Energy Work there is nothing I really like. You'll have to find what works for you. If you practice just a bit every day for say 20 minutes total you will make progress.
Trataka Yoga - to develop clairvoyance to see what you are working with and will also aid in visualization, so you can create objects on the astral
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJo6xGDS0O8
Self-Hypnosis - to enter a trance to interact
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3N6FeKOJzBw
Energy Work - this is very helpful working with the etheric and astral energies involved and disciplines your energy bodies.
https://www.youtube.com/user/RealAstralBob
Meditation - this is key to everything. If you want to mental project thru those Gates, you need to be able to meditate! There are tons of such videos, I picked only one sample. Explore!

Lucid Dreaming - this is a good gateway to the inner & outer world
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYSX51xBkos
Learn a banishing ritual and begin to practice it once every day. Try to put all your concentration into it and know that even if you feel it is not effective you are developing.
I would also advice building a solid knowledge base. There are many recommendations on the Forum, here are a few.

AFTERNOTE: I saw this video. I don't know how accurate the facts are but assuming they are as given, it is a cautionary tale. Note mainly 20:00.

Nahemah,
This may touch on deeper philosophical views, but, I think that working with the thought-forms of the Necronomicon that they need to be balanced and controlled, particularly since there is so much 'darkness' put into them. If I worked with the Northern pantheon and I wanted to evoke a frost giant, I would do so under the name of Thor, after I had established a connection with him. I don't think the rakshashas or demons of the Goetia are 100% morally evil, like Catholics would say, but they're rebellious. They're not benign. I don't have the 'John Dee translation' here, but, from what I recall it treats everything as demonic and does not guide the reader to operate under the auspices of the Near Eastern gods. Perhaps it is my impression, but, it did not seems like a full system, more along the lines of 'Chthulu devour me and do my will.'
As an aside, I have always admired the Northern pantheon of my Viking ancestors and though I have no conscious connection I feel close to them.
I admit I am not deeply informed in the area of the details of these various texts of the Necronomicon since they are not what they claim to be (always a red flag) and don't fit my personal disposition. So, I fully confess I could be wrong on some points here.

Thanks a lot, i will try these tips. By the way, , is it safe if more than one priest are present at a ritual?

You're welcome, I wish you luck.
Regarding the ritual question, I do not know what you mean. Could you be more specific?

In the Necronomicon it says that no "uninitiated" person is allowed to observe a ritual such as a conjuration or other spells, but what would happen if another priest or "initiated" person is present?

Hi Nemerian,
I really don't have anything else to say about the subject of the Necronomicon.
