Hello everyone

I myself, since i have started practicing magick, more particularly whilst creating my first servitor, feel a strong connection to the Sun god Ra.
Today i decided to start trying to reach contact with that ancient entitie.
In all of my practice, i enjoy starting with basic knowledge of the subject, and then finding my own way. It has worked well so far, but i think that with this i need somones insight.
For now, i just stared my Ra altar, and right now it consists on two high black candle stands, an incense burner, a incense stick stand and my offering done today at dusk ( when Ra is believed to change his boat and enter the underworld), which consited of water, and honey.

The ritual i did was pretty basic. First i burned some cedar to clense the area of the altar. While that was in the burner, i began meditation to clear my mind from everything. After i felt my mind is clear enough, i smoked a small amount of white salvia to cleanse my body and spirit, something i do before any ritual.
When the cedar burned through, i put mirra and olibanum into the incense burner. These incenses were used in egypt around altars of Ra and Isis. Also i lighted a stick of sandal wood incense, to help myself with meditation and keep all evil And malicious spirits away, and put the water and honey on the altar.
When that was burning i began vibrating Ra, and inside my mind called his name out into the void and concentrated on his being. I dont know for how long was i meditating that way, but when i woke up from the trance i opened my eyes and to my surprise the room was in a dense mist, and it took me a while to realize that all the incenses have long ago been burned and im gassing myself in a small vlosed room.

During and after the ritual i havent felt any entity, and the only thing, which may have been autosugestion, that woke me up from trance was a about 10 second vision of a first person view of what i think was Ra rowing his boat.

Any tips or advice how to improve the ritual?? Also yes, i will shortly be buying and making more parts of the altar, most importantly a representation of Ra.

You act as if autosuggestion is a bad thing. What do you think the internal, mental aspect of meditation is? Autosuggestion! Imagination! Visualization!

Keep practicing and adding to your altar, seems like you're on the right path to me.

I did not mean it as in that autosugestion is bad or wrong. I do consider the old Gods who correspond to eachother in many ancient ( or pagan if you like to call it that) religions as Entitys existing completely out of the human subconcious and unconciousness, as completely independent beings. therefore i am hoping to have some sort of contact, or sign if you will, that what im seeing/hearing is not just autosugestion, but also something more

Ah, but what if you're wrong? It's a question that works both ways, make no mistake. What you're doing has had an impact of at least slight significance. Keep doing what you're doing and, if one day RA decends from the the heavens to talk to we can discuss, debate, and psychoanalyze the encounter. Meanwhile obviously study Egyptian belief. The Book of Coming Forth by Day has a whole list of morals for the weighing of the heart you may find benefit in practicing.

I'd also recommend the Solar Adorations, as their purpose is to connect to the energy of Ra/the Sun. You can find them in most books on GD/Thelemite style ceremonial magic, such as Kraig's "Modern Magick: 12 Lesssons," or probably even on google.

Remember, you can totally customize this. My adorations are based on the progression of my day, not the actual time, I use different deities and at different solar positions, and my adorations are about a simple, minute or two meditation.
