I have read that New Avatar Power is very effective. What´s your opinion? Has anyone tried it?

It is a good system as it is a very simplified form of GD/qabalisic magic. It does, however, take just as much effort as any other magical system in order to make it work. So if you enjoy how it is set up, you are more likely to practice, and get great results. Also, like any other system, the more you practice some form of meditation and concentration exercises the more "power" you will have when doing any form of magic.

I would like to add, that it is very common in "grimmoire"/spell book systems to have an actual copy of the work. Since the author repeatedly talked about giving out only sections of the book to friends or clients, it would be safe to assume you don't need to buy the actual book (I did, but found a good price of $5), but you should copy down the rituals and chants that you actually use into a notebook or something.

I like this system because I like basic rituals, "spirit" focused practice, and grimmoires and practical magic. I don't like the system because of how it is presented and its reputation for being "the easiest", most effective system out there, which it can be but it still takes work and practice.

I know people have posted all of the material online, and i'm sure you can find a copy somewhere. You have to do a bit of the work yourself, you know. It is not hard to google "nap rituals" or search the forums for how to "banish". I have heard that certain NAP spirits have caused major backlash for a lot of individuals, not sure the reasons why or which ones exactly (I think Elubatel if you google you will find stories). I'm not sure if this book caused me any harm as I experimented with it years ago and luck has been up and down in that time span, naturally.

these risks you mention also happen in all other types of magick, or only in that linked to spirits?

For example, do planetary spirits like those of the Sun, or Mercury or Jupiter also pose risks?

I'm checking out this guys writing now. I'll see how the content is, but so far I'm somewhat turned off by the original cover which states promises like:

Attract love slaves! Win a lifetime of riches! Make others obey!

This kind of magick obviously appeals more to your average consumer so I guess I can't blame him for marketing like that. We'll see how the book goes.

There is a big difference between the "material" in NAP and the sensationalist publishing techniques of the 60s/70s. The author hates those sections as much as you do, and was basically forced to write them. Funny thing is, is that it's easy to be skeptical about them but for a new practitioner reading the book front to back is sometimes enough to push their beliefs to a higher pitch, enabling them to work the system quickly and effectively. These days, tho, we have higher degrees of skepticism, for better or worse

I read a good chunk of "The Miracle of New Avatar Power" and while there seems to be some segments of usable material, I don't think I would recommend this to anyone by itself as a beginner's instruction. I see the author has some other titles and hopefully they are better but this particular book is just full of fluff and has some segments of potentially useful information.

I like the book and have gotten consistent results from it. But I share the dislike (along with probably everyone everywhere) of the sensational anecdotes. On the other hand, if you pay close attention to those parts, you will find some additional information hidden in them. I see the 1970s occultnik schlock bits as "blinds" the way the old medieval grimoires sometimes had blinds or elliptical language meant only for those who already understood.

So in one way, it's actually not a beginner's book. But also, if you work with the Mentor and use the attracting / banishing method along with his simplified LBRP and Middle Pillar, you'll get good pretty quickly as far as magical praxes go. I think NAP leads people directly into evocation if they stick with it.
