Using correspondences in Tarot divination.

I've read a great deal about the elemental, astrological, and Qabalistic correspondences pertaining to the Tarot. But, none of it has described explicitly how to use this knowledge in divination. Are there special spreads? Are the correspondences meant to inform the traditional readings? Is it completely up to the diviner? Any insights or reading suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
