The Saturn Return
Original post: Diceman
Well, Saturn moves through the entire ecliptic of the horizon in roughly 29.5 years. At around 28, Saturn begins to move into the house where it appeared at your birth, and you undergo a maturation period as your Saturn transits the house, which lasts roughly until 31 or maybe a little before. Usually you'll see 28-30, but it will be in the exact place at 29 and a half years, and transiting the House for maybe a year and a half either direction.
I'm in the middle of my Saturn return and it hasn't been easy. It's been a time of restlessness... it always is. You want to move on, but you're in a holding pattern as Saturn disciplines you from the sky. The nature of the Saturn return depends on what House your Saturn appears in on your birth chart.
My Saturn appears in the 12th House, a difficult position that generally has to do with psychic forces and an unstable environment. Those things are certainly going on in my life right now.
The most important thing to do during a Saturn return is to relax. If you push yourself forward, you'll meet all kinds of obstacles. You'll have plenty already. You hold on, try to calm down and then when it's over you've matured and your second transit at roughly 59 years will be much, much easier.
If anyone wants to talk about their Saturn House or their experiences with their transits, put it in this thread. It's a completely new topic, there are no doubles.
You can get a natal chart for free on http://www.astro.com, so hit them up and try the click portrait.

Well Saturn in the fifth has to do with two things: Sex and creativity. What this means is that you may find that your sex life and your creative life have a lot of obstacles in them. Saturn in the fifth isn't overly difficult, it's much worse in the first or the twelfth, but those particular drives for a Scorpio Rising are incredibly important and are going to create a lot of trouble because of their interaction. I'd be interested to know how things went from 28 to 30.
Saturn in Pisces is generally a sign of someone who needs to assert themselves more, and Scorpio for all it's passion is often not very assertive. Whereas I struggle not to knock over everyone I meet (You should see my Mars aspects) you're going to struggle to get out of yourself and assert your will.

That is what the return taught me,also Saturn in the fifth can indicate seperation or crisis with family,if badly aspected and mine is. This is true of my life. In that period of my life I got pregnant unexpectedly and this gave me the impetus to leave my destructive and violent relationship and change my life. I stopped seeing life from the bottom of a whisky glass [recovered alcoholic too] and hope walked in to my life, for the first time. I cut the ties to the past and began living in the now, looking forward, instead of wallowing in the past.

Thanks for being so personal. Yes, the Saturn Return can be a very good time. Difficult but good. Often it is the impetus to make a turning point in life. I'm in recovery myself from a prescription drug addiction (How Virgo is that?) and I totally understand what you're saying. When it hit me that I was going to die and I wasn't going to be pleased with the results of that, I turned my life around and aside from a few hiccoughs I've done very well.
Just to give you my opinion, I think that trouble in the home was a given with your natal chart. I hope you have a good domestic life now, because it's probably the foremost thing on your mind... Scorpio Rising is such an interesting sign. Where is your sun sign? I'm thinking Virgo or Taurus. Just curious.

I went through my Saturn Return years ago. It was not a fun time for me but you're right the best thing to do is relax and go with the flow. I embraced it looking at it as a blessing rather than being cursed. My husband just finished his Saturn Return recently.

My Sun is in Leo, with the moon and venus conjunct. My Saturn is in my rising sign, Scorpio, in the twelfth house. Mars is there too. Would this be a bad thing??

One planet does not make your chart. It would depend really on your entire chart and how Saturn would affect your chart

My saturn is in the 12th house too and I'm in the middle of my return as well. When the return started I began to have feelings I never felt before. I felt like my life wasn't going anywhere. It actually was, I was at the time more successful than anyone else I knew my age and had literally thousands saved. Logically I knew this, but somehow I couldn't convince my spirit of this. I started getting panic attacks when I woke up in the mornings. I never had panic attacks before. I also became susceptible to vampires and had a hard time getting away from those that set out to drain my energy. My logical mind for the first time in my life was in constant battle with my solar plexus. That is, I would look around at all I had and all I had accomplished and my mind could see how lucky I was, but my emotions somehow would not listen no matter what logic dictated. I would feel pangs of emotional pain in my solar plexus. This went on for almost a year to the point where I became physically ill and lost all my savings because my illness made me lose my ability and desire to work so I just rode my savings until they were gone and destroyed all my friendships by becoming a hermit. I felt incredibly lonely, but at the same time I could not handle people around me as my energy would quickly drain.
Then I started meditating and I decided to repaint my room yellow (since yellow corresponds with energy and the solar plexus). The yellow seemed to help lift my spirits and the meditating helped curb the strange uncomfortable pulling I kept feeling in that chakra. Intrestingly I would feel this pulling the most when I was in a state between waking and sleeping as I was getting up every morning. Now I'm broke and alone, but feeling alot better and hopeful for the new year.
I think Saturn was trying to tell me that I was on the wrong path, but my lack of knowing what that was led me to self destruct.

The Saturn opposition is also an important time in one's life, keep in mind. This is when Saturn is in the sign opposing the natal sign. I have Saturn in Sagittarius (which is a great place for Saturn to be!) so my Saturn opposition occurred when Saturn was in the sign of Gemini. Instead of representing "lessons learned" it will represent "lessons that NEED TO BE learned".
And indeed, understanding and acquiring the qualities of Gemini has been a task and a half for me. My dad is a Gemini and during the time of my Saturn opposition I hated that poor man with a rage that was almost transcendental. I recently went through another Saturn opposition, and during that time my relationship with Dad was again emotioally charged, but we ended up getting a lot of stuff straightened out.
I'm looking forward to my next Saturn return--it's not for awhile yet but I know it's going to be good. (I'm one of those insufferable puds who just LOVES TO LEARN--what can I say?) much love - (c) 2007 Odonata Corp, all rights reserved - Scarlett

That would be Virgo with me.Ouch, mutable Earth, difficult for me.I have learned to mellow out a bit though, think before reacting and to try and see the bigger picture in situations.I'll need to check back when I've had this happen.Saturn is at 8 deg.Virgo, just coming into opposition with my Natal Saturn [15 deg.Pisces.]Thanks Scarlett, this will help me to ride it out, knowing I have to learn the lessons.Makes lots of sense.

If your Saturn opposer is Virgo, then you are always going to be challenged by your job--more or less depending on what house it's in (I'm sure that's probably in here somewhere but I'm too lazy to look it up).
Also issues of cleanliness/tidiness are things that may represent a lifelong struggle for you. That's not enviable, but like any other problem, it can be solved.

Yep.I have been OCD about tidiness, most of my life.It took me working with the underlying control issues, from the past, to let go of that. I still have my little 'mechanisms' I allow myself, my cd collection and books especially.I must have my kitchen and bathroom in a good state at all times, but now I allow messiness elswhere, for a bit.I have never settled on a career or steady job. That will be coming to the fore soon.I'll be back in the jobs market. Should be interesting.lol.

Wow. This is very interesting. My saturn placement is the opposite of yours Eretik. My natal saturn is in Virgo which makes my opposer Pisces. I am and have always been the sloppiest person I know and my friends as a joke had often given me little presents consisting of cleaning products. No matter how hard I try I find it impossible to stay tidy for long periods of time. My imagination also gets away with me alot of the time and I daydream incesantly. I'll lose hours at a time without realizing it by being in la la land. I have a great time when I daydream, but it's really horrible how undisciplined my mind is when it comes to mundane reality. Kickass, vivid imagination though.

im in the tenth house..i was born in the year of the dragon too by the chinese zodiac--actually a double dragon..i dont know how that would correlate to western astrology but im sure with a little digging a syncronicity could be found.
Well Saturn in the fifth has to do with two things: Sex and creativity. What this means is that you may find that your sex life and your creative life have a lot of obstacles in them.
Retrograde Saturn singleton in Leo in 4, here...Directly opposite my Mars. I only just finished going through my return within the last six months or so. Reason why I mention this underneath a quote about Saturn in 5 is because Leo is 5th house ruler...also, my Saturn can be in 5, depending on what house system I use.
My Return was a bumpy ride; started off in a haze of alcohol, marijuana, and antidepressants, got into a bad relationship, although it turned out to be the only way for me to leave home; lost virginity very late...although I'm glad I finally did, because it actually stopped me wanting sex more or less entirely. My Saturn is square Uranus Rx in Scorp on the 7/8 cusp, and I've also got Venus in Aries in 12 opposed Pluto Rx in Lib square Moon in Cap in 10...my libido isn't a source of anything other than enormous pain and suffering. I didn't lose my virginity until I was 26, and I'm more or less expecting to be single for the rest of my life at this point.
The upside is that I'm now living almost entirely alone and unemployed; both romantically, and very close socially offline. I've needed that for a while, but I'm in the process of getting a housemate, (not a relationship, but someone to help pay the bills and pull me out of my shell generally) and I also want to become less introverted gradually. I'd like to get to the point where the main effect of my Saturn is to make me disorganised perhaps, but not where it completely dominates my life.
True to the textbook definition of Saturn in 4, my family life has also been very difficult at times; my father is an amoral, domineering individual who in recent years has also descended into incurable malignant narcissism. My solution to that problem has been that I've seen him probably 3 times in the last 2 years...he keeps trying to get back into my life, but I am not allowing it.
There are other parts of my chart which are positive...Jupiter in Taurus in 2; I also love being solar Aquarian, I'll admit...and always have, although that probably sounds horribly arrogant. My Neptune is weird...it doesn't really count as a positive or negative, I don't think...it's in Sag in 9.
(EDIT: Thank God for Christmas and the ability to re-edit this, likely before most other people read it. My earliest version of this post was full of profanity and self pity. Such has been removed)

lol.
I haven't gotten to the stage where I can see the benefits of what I've gone through yet, but I know it will come. I've been reading a book on high magick where the author states that you shouldn't be jealous of those with natural talent in magick. Since things come easy for them at first, they rarely develop the discipline needed in the work and end up with many problems later on. Those who aren't as "lucky" have to work much harder to get results at first, but the discipline they acquire during this process aids them in eventually becoming better than those who have the gift naturally.
This idea helps me to understand Saturn a bit more. Many ask, Why is Saturn so difficult? Because Saturn is about discipline, and it is difficulty that breeds discipline.

The Saturn Return
Original post: Eretik
So true Adonye,Petrus4 my Saturn is in the fifth house,I have 4 planets in the 4th [Aquarius, my sun sign too,I love that also] my father was gone early but my mother was domineering and fanatical about religion, depressed and trapped with 2 kids she really didn't want.Fun childhood.lol. I'm a good parent despite all that.Saturn can strengthen you greatly.I went through a hazy period of unreality - drug and drink fuelled,in my early-mid twenties. My Saturn return lifted me from that by kicking my ass into shape - it told me I was needed, to stop being selfish and wallowing in my self pity. Frater Luciferi,Saturn in the 10th sounds interesting.I am not a Dragon myself, but my Gran [Gemini], dad[Libra] and daughter[Taurus] are. I am a Horse.I'm not sure how co - relation would work.Horses have a great capacity for hard work and are highly strung, sounds like me.Fits with Saturns lessons. My thoughts on Dragons - Dragons are strong of temperament, leaders ands go getters, but - my daughter was 'mousy' 'timid' 'nervous' a quiet wee soul, though as she grew up I saw her metamorphose, she grew in confidence and self esteem [I worked with her on it ,she was bullied, so I had to help, but she did all the work and was a fast learner] ] Now my little dragon is a powerful beast.lol.She is a mum and takes no shit from no body. She can be fierce. I'm very proud of her.I should check her Saturn placement, She was born in1988, I think that's metal?I also know another dragon, who has grown in a similar way, he was a quiet soul as a child, troubled also[.Aries,1988 also]He 's very gentle still, but I've seen him angry and you can feel the power from a distance. My Gran was the head of her family ,parents died tragically young and she and my eldest gt.uncle raised the brood of siblings between them. She had an inner core of steel ,but would give the clothes off her back for the needy.I suppose I'msaying inner strentgh and fortitude are two strong points of Dragons.I'm sure that will tie in with Saturn's lessons for you somehow, but I'll need to refresh myself on the 10th house.

This site has some interesting info. on Saturn's effects in 2007/8 for each sign. It's a bit jargony [is that a real word?lol] but seems interesting. I'm looking at house positions and Saturn too. This topic has reawakened my interest in Astrology somewhat.I am enjoying finding out.Saturn in Virgo's effect? ooh err.
I found this on the Tenth House transit, Frater.I'll put the link up as it has all the houses,so we can all see our own.
Saturn Transiting the Tenth House
Saturn reaches the top of our chart when it begins its transit through the tenth house. Ironically enough, there is freedom in knowing some of our limitations, and Saturn's transit through the tenth house teaches us exactly what this means. By the time Saturn leaves the house, we will have learned where we stand in the world, and how we have limited our achievements. This self-evaluation then offers us the freedom to appraise where we want to go. Approximately 14 years before this transit, we learned Saturnine lessons of the fourth houseâ??we built a secure foundation within ourselves. Now it is time we build a secure foundation in our professional and/or most public lives. Our standing in society now comes under Saturn's scrutiny. We are in the spotlight, and what it is exactly that we have been building now comes up for inspection. Any projects begun 12-14 years before this transit are now scrutinized. Some of us find ourselves getting recognition and career "rewards" at this time. If this transit occurs in early adulthood, it is a time when we face our duties as a career person. Although the tenth house is a house of ambition, we do not focus on where we are going as much as we focus on where we stand. The question, "Where are we going?", is reserved for the next house, the eleventh, although on some level we are preparing for that stage as well. Before we know where exactly we are headed, we must know where we stand. Saturn's transit of the tenth house is an eye-opening oneâ??a time when we are working hard, taking on our fair share of duties and responsibilities, and either reaping some of the rewards of our hard work or facing the consequences of poor choices. We become aware of what we have and haven't accomplished to date, and we unconsciously prepare to re-evaluate our lives in terms of our personal goals during the next house transit. What have we achieved to date? We now are treated to a realistic look at what we have built and what we have achieved. We no longer view our place in the world, our careers, our reputations, and our standing in society with rose-colored glasses. We face the facts, and only the facts. At the beginning of the transit, our increased sensitivity to where we stand and to our reputations may feel uncomfortable for some. We may feel exposed, publicly scrutinized, or under fire in our careers. We may also feel burdened by our responsibilities. This discomfort comes only as a result of a rush of reality into the matters of the tenth house, and if the discomfort is great, it is only due to the fact that we may have been holding onto false images of ourselves. Just as a mid-life crisis is experienced differently by different people, Saturn's transit of the tenth house holds different meaning for different people, depending very much on how true we have been to ourselves. However, as Saturn moves through the house, we begin to feel more secure. We recognize what it is exactly that we have accomplished.
I never knew that. That is fascinating. I'm almost 26 so I appreciate the head's up.

The Saturn Return
Original post: Circle of Twelve
I have long been interested in this topic and how it relates to the 27 club. All famous people who died when they were 27 -28. This is all especially important to me as I am heading towards my first Saturn return. I even calculated exactly when Saturn would be at the exact point of my birth. August 23 2009 from 10:56:18 am until 2:17:37 pm. HAHA that will be a time for some ritual I have yet to design.
