That I should _feel_ what they mean. I cant help but just look at the illustration and interpret it that way. How can I advance, and just feel what they hsould mean for each person?

You should, in my opinion, read the basic, basic meaning behind the number and the suite. Many card artwork is wrong or misleading.

Aces represent the best of a suite.
Queens the Yin aspect.
Kings the Yang aspect.
10 represents what happens when you take the suite to the maximum level eliminating all other influences.
Therefore 10 of swords is complete and utter annihilation.
etc.

To me, the suites represent the four basic elements. The major arcana represent Void or Akasha, the oldest element. The numbers each represent a sphere of influence, much as the spheres of the heavens are built upon the five elements.

It is important to memorize the meaning of each number, and each suite. Eventually with practice it will come to you easily. :)

...sometimes it helps to read the traditional "meanings" associated with your particular deck...at least until further experience expands on specifics... but dont rely on just one source like the little booklets that come with the decks... invest in some older reference books ... the tarot of the bohemians by papus is one i consult regularly...

You should not even read these answers to your post, esp. _this_ post. Actually, you should be best off not reading anything at all.
That's the best way to keep things occult, ie hidden, and that's what it's all about, isn't it?
How's that feel? Yes? No?

The way I do a reading is through intuition and a little psychometry as a way of "cheating".
I'm not reccomending you use this method. Ask yourself how you did all your most accurate readings. From there use that method. Experiment try all different things til you find what is best for you. If for you you remember the meanings is through the images of the cards stick with it :) If you have to look in the book for the first readings then do that. There is nothing wrong with that either. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to do a reading. Only ways that work best for the individual.

Once upon a time I learned the basic meanings. I ended up forgetting about them, because eventually I 'heard' them on my own when I did a reading. It will come to you as well. Just begin to learn the basic meanings now. OR, do whatever you feel works best for you.
