Need help with Tarot

Post by Occult Forum Archive »

Original post: Marquise De Sade

Hello... Since I had no response on the Tarot 101(sry if I seem rude or impatient) I thought I might post it here. There has been something concerning the Celtic Cross spread which has intrested me. I noticed that there are diffrent variations to the set up of the celtic cross, and I wanted to know what the ninth card represents to you? I heard it represents what someone must go through to reach the outcome, and I also read on another book that it represents the fears. Currently I follow the Celtic cross spread like this:

1-The Quarent(sp)
2-Immediate Influences
3-Foundation of the question
4-Past
5-Energies in manifestation(what might occur)
6-What will occur
7-Fears
8-Others involvment
9-What to go through to reach the outcome
10-the coutcome

What is your opinion on this? Also is there anyone here who can help me with a certain reading that I did, and perhaps compare notes on meanings, and thoughts in order for me to better understand the results I had over PM? Thank you for reading, and for your time.

What you will go through, or rather what you can choose to go through is the the ninth card, as well as your hopes and fears. both those definitions are right because its showing obstacles and where to focus your will to get the outcome in the ten.

I haven't been online a lot the past week, so I guess I missed your first post.
I read just slightly different to you for a few cards in this spread, I noticed.

Currently I follow the Celtic cross spread like this:

1-The Quarent(sp)
2-Immediate Influences
3-Foundation of the question
4-Immediate Past Influences
5-Short Term Future Outcome
6-Influences/Strengths
7-Variation of Querant/question
8-Influences/Others involvment
9-Hopes and Fears
10-the coutcome

So for me card #9 is mostly "hopes and/or fears" specifically regarding the question more than regarding the querant, if that makes sense.

I would be pleased to try to help, if I can, with your reading that you mentioned. You can PM me if you like. I am still learning myself, though.

Blessings on your path.

I've been using the AC's Thoth deck from the start. With that, and my accurate readings using cards I felt nothign for, or from, I'd say I'm decent at figuring stuff out :D

I'd be more than happy to aid you in your questions, and give more insight in to cards.

As for using the celtic cross ( I assume that's what you meant by "your opinion on this"): It's a common spread that seems to work, but if you really want to get better readings, personalize spreads: make your own by being intuitive as to where the card goes in regards to the others, and it means - what it's affected by, etc. etc.

PM me, or email me (frothy_coke@yahoo.com), if you want to ask any questions. But you'll know the querant better than anyone here, probably, so ultimately, it's what YOU feel, not what WE think :)

Yes, I'm four months late in replying to this, but oh well :)

Personally, I avoid the Celtic Cross spread like the plague. I have just never had very good results with it. There are a number of spreads I prefer to use instead.

It is more pertinent to ask why there are variations, and what the traditional placement is about and why.

The Keltic Cross was published by A. E. Waite in his "Pictorial Key to the Tarot" about 100 years ago. It has been copied by many people, sometimes with variations that don't make much sense or which miss the point of the original.

The four cards on the side are "personal" cards, and show a symbolic evolution from the individual asking the question (querent) to the outcome (the card that is allegedly the fulfillment of all the other cards). The "ninth" card, is simply "hopes and fears". So another way of saying it is that it represents the psychological state of the querent. It is what he thinks and feels about everything that has been revealed up to that point. This may give some insight about how and why the next (final) card in the reading is established. If you compare the ninth card to the third, or "Crown" card, you may get some additional insights into the motives and concerns of the querent.

Can you (or anyone else here) give an example of a spread you prefer?
