Invoking Tahuti

I have always felt a very strong connection with Tahuti.

Recently, I have been in the proccess of painting a series encompassing nine gods of the Egyptian pantheon, all of which are rather small works (4" x 6" each) compared to the scale on which I usually work. Also there is a rather large work which will be the focalpoint of the series which is 48" x 10".

They have all reached a point, close to completion, but my work has gone from the usual pace to that of turtles stampeeding up hill through peanut butter.

In all of my ritual workings I have continually come back to focusing on the rendering of Tahuti, for no apparent reason. I feel that this is some sort of a sign that I need to commune with Tahuti in order to find the root of my problem with these works.

My question is; would any of you happen to know of a particular ritual to invoke or even evoke Tahuti so that I can get past this artistic block.

All help is appreciated and I'll be more than happy to share these images with all of you once I have completed them.

Thanks to all of you in advance for your time,

I O Pan

Just in case you do not have access to it I'll post Liber Israfel. I adore this ritual and its one of the most beautiful in my opinion. It has worked wonders for my creative endeavors. And before we get into the ritual I'd like to say that I think your paintings are wonderful. If ritual serves to highten that ability I believe there is no telling what you may come up with!

Without further adue:

Well, thank you for your kind words. I hate to say this but, in comparison to the series that I'm currently working on, most of that work is drek.

As for the ritual; HOLY SHIT! How the hell do I go about performing that. Is it merely to be spoken aloud or is there an actual physical ritual to accompany it? Do you reccomend... uh...

What do I do to pull this off?

Thanks so much for the help.

'Magick in Theory and Practice' is your best bet for instruction in invokation.

The main points I would stress are these:

1. Use 777. Pick out Thoth and be sure to correspond 'everything' to him. All the colors you see during the ritual should be of Thoth. All the scents, stones, sigils, etc...should all correspond to Thoth or otherwise you may end up invoking something quite different. Use your Will in determining what is proper to involve in the ritual regarding robes, tools, etc... If your lazy like me you don't have to gather up all this stuff and just go with a robe, a wand, a dark room, and a statue of the God. Be sure not to include anything you may smell, hear, feel, see, etc. that would not correspond to Thoth.

2. The invokation itself should be performed after a banishing of some sort. I would recommend both the Star Ruby and the Star Sapphire, but if your pressed for time or lazy like me just do whatever Banishing ritual you are familiar with so that it will not disturb the rest of the invokation.

3. Memorize the ritual as best you can until you can recite it without having to read it. You must be able to speak the words as if you were reciting a holy scripture or phrase as the Christians do in church. It must 'sound' very spooky. It must get your energy up and involve you emotionally with it, otherwise your just reciting words aren't you? You must put the 'Magick' into the words yourself. That is the duty of the magician. If you do not have the time for this, when you read it be sure to try your best to inflect the words just right and make it sound important. It is imperative that you involve all your being in it and 'Inflame thyself with prayer'.

4. There is a point in the ritual where the God is to enter you, it is the true 'Invokation'. When this happens you will know it because your voice will sound distant and strange. Like something is speaking 'through' you. This represents success.

5. Under no circumstances should you banish after you have successfully invoked Tahuti. Only if it is a failure should you do so. You are also in danger of invoking a spirit that is not Tahuti. If this is the case banish immediatly. You will know if it is him or not.

And Aleister Crowley from his masterwork 'Liber ABA' on Invokation:

"Every magician must compose his ceremony in such a manner as to produce a dramatic climax. At the moment when the excitement becomes ungovernable, when the whole concious being of the Magician undergoes a spiritual spasm, at that moment must he utter the supreme adjuration."

There are other methods which can be read in Magick in Theory and Practice. One of them being mental.

I hope this helps somewhat, but if your still confused I would suggest picking up above book and reading it beforehand.

Crowley regarding the secret to Invokation:

"The whole secret may be summarized in these four words: "Inflame thyself in praying."

Crowley glosses this invocation in his discussions of the magick link and the formula of YHVH in Magick in Theory and Practice. Basically:

Form of the god is completely known and assumed. (learn everything you can about thoth)

The Voice of the God is heard

Assert identity with the god

the god is again invoked, but by himself acting as the magickian, as if it were his will to manifest in the magickian. at this point your voice should sound distant, and not your own, like a voice in an echo etc.

And:

Y= Fire, the eager inflamed prayer
H= Water, the refelection of the god
V= Air, the merging of the above
H=Earth, materialization/manifestation of the higher principles (in this case the god)

Would you say that most of these texts could be found in either Magick and Theory and Practice as well as Gems From the Equinox?

You'll see the paintings the moment the varnish is dry. I must say that they are the best works that I have ever done. I'll also have to post some of the pictures that I'm doing for the South Beach leg of "The Dirty Show" which is sponsored by Juxtapose magazine.

I have a few sidereal renderings of angels masturbating and such. The nature of the show is of an erotic/pornographic nature so I'll be sure to indicate that some of them will not be safe for viewing at work.

I'm going to have to do a bit of studying this evening in order to make certain that I perform this ritual correctly.

How often would you suggest that I perform this ritual (eg: once a day for a week) and when (before I begin to paint)?

Finally, what other advice would you have for a person, such as myself, who's daily rituals are comprised of the Qabalistic Cross, Greater Ritual of the Pentagram, Greater Ritual of the Hexagram, Middle Pillar and again the Qabalistic Cross, followed by at very least 30 minutes of meditation?

I have been practicing this particular regimine for just under two years, almost every day and I am now interested in practicing invocations and evocations. I have had minor experience with sigils and various elements of Austin Spare's system of Magick but I tend to follow, very closely, the basic principles laid out by Regardie in The Middle Pillar and A Garden of Pomegranite. I have never taken part in any of, what I have heard referred to as Lower Magick, being the attaining of money, power, material things, etc... as I have never seen the need for the use of magick in attaining such desires. If I want something I usually just go out and get it. Knowing that these methods exist has caused me to wonder whether or not I should indulge in such practices just to see if I can perform them with a fair degree of success.

Thank you all so much for your continued help and support.

Which is the most effective method of "lower magick" anyway. Why use a less effective method?

Liber ABA Book Four in four parts is your best bet, but a lot of it is in Gems as well. I'm not sure if Liber Israfel is in your copy of Magick in Theory and Practice, but you can get it online at hermetic.com. The site contains a great amount of the Libri of Crowley.

Liber ABA contains Mysticisim, Magick: Elementary Theory(Discourse on the various tools), Magick in Theory and Practice, and Equinox of the Gods. The appendix of this book contains a great amount of rituals and a selection of important correspondances from 777. It also contains many other editorial comments, an easy to use index and lots of neat pictures too. I cannot recommend this book enough to the practicing magician.

Your schedual of practice is up to you. Do what thou wilt.

Without going into detail as Thoth/Tehuti is central to our/my rites. Within the circle, as a brief supplement, or even as a pause.... Look towards the North-West, there appreciate a boat upon the river, it is presided over by Ma-at and she leads from the West where things rest/die to the North where things passed over are judged. It is quite difficult to get in tune with this at present I would wait until Autumn Equinox or even better 28th Sptember Full Moon.

However....For some brief "meditations" close to hand;- on New Moon Aug 16th 18:43 P.M. GMT Facing South begin your planning for whatever your rite is, write it down in your book or on your parchment paper whatever etc. Writing is very sacred to any works of Thoth, in as much the writing is a link staraight away.
On August 30th at 17:43 face south, close the book and bind it, don't open until you perform the rite.
these times and directions are based on people living in the UK.

If you are to perform a rite coinciding with the Full Moon Sptember, then begin all practical preparations on New Moon 14th, face south at 16:53 to meditate on the task ahead.

On the 28th~The Rite performed, commences at 15:53 or at the very least a prayer or summoning at this time, nevrthe less the rite should end by 21:00, with a prayer/banishment called to the horizon in SSW position.

These times and directions follow the patterns of Libra, or Scales, the only non animate/Life sign in the heavans. Perhaps not worth checking with astrological experts but an astronomer will confirm these times and directions. They are taken from my notes for this year, and if you're outside of the UK, then ...I have no idea!

I do not know what regalia you use but the correspondences or means of checking have all been noted before.

the Rite of Thoth closely allied to Maat would include declarations, such as I have not "?", these can be verified by the Plates XXIX and XXX on papyrus of ANi, amongst others.

--
Anyway...or Ani Way, good luck in the path ahead, have a brief moment in the NorthWest however. And Writing! very important, Buy yourself a blank book and fill it, use the sacred feather as your book mark and bind it with a pendulm*... etc etc...

I said without going into details didn't I...I got carried away!

*artistic licence..not necesary but creates a nice link

Blessed Be.

Just a brief note - Liber Israfel (and other rituals based on this particular rubric - such as the original Anubis invocation) are actually broken up into seperate sections - such as below. The blue represents the magician, and the red the God. If one is to perform this ritual solo, they should have the ability to switch from Godform to magician and back again!

HB:Vau Priocul, O procul este profani.
Bahlasti! Ompehda!
In the name of the Mighty and Terrible One, I proclaim that I have banished the Shells unto their habitations.
I invoke Tahuti, the Lord of Wisdom and of Utterance, the God that cometh forth from the Veil.
O Thou! Majesty of Godhead! Wisdom-crowned Tahuti! Lord of the Gates of the Universe! Thee, Thee, I invoke.
O Thou of the Ibis Head! Thee, Thee I invoke.
Thou who wieldest the Wand of Double Power! Thee, Thee I invoke!
Thou who bearest in Thy left hand the Rose and Cross of Light and Life: Thee, Thee, I invoke.
Thou, whose head is as an emerald, and Thy nemmes as the night-sky blue! Thee, Thee I invoke.
Thou, whose skin is of flaming orange as though it burned in a furnace! Thee, Thee I invoke.

Behold! I am Yesterday, To-Day, and the Brother of To-Morrow!
I am born again and and again.
Mine is the Unseen Force, whereof the Gods are sprung! Which is as Life unto the Dwellers in the Watch-Towers of the Universe.
I am the Charioteer of the East, Lord of the Past and of the Future.
I see by mine own inward light: Lord of Resurrection; Who cometh forth from the Dusk, and my birth is from the House of Death.
O ye two Divine Hawks upon your Pinnacles!
Who keep watch over the Universe!
Ye who company the Bier to the House of Rest!
Who pilot the Ship of Ra advancing onwards to the heights of heaven!
Lord of the Shrine which standeth in the Centre of the Earth!
Behold, He is in me, and I in Him!
Mine is the Radiance, wherein Ptah floatheth over the firmament!
I travel upon high!
I tread upon the firmament of Nu!
I raise a flashing flame, with the lightning of Mine Eye!
Ever rushing on, in the splendour of the daily glorified Ra: giving my life to the Dwellers of Earth.
If I say "Come up upon the mountains!" the Celestial Waters shall flow at my Word.
For I am Ra incarnate!
Kephra created in the Flesh!
I am the Eidolon of my father Tmu, Lord of the City of the Sun!
The God who commands is in my mouth!
The God of Wisdom is in my Heart!
My tongue is the Sanctuary of Truth!
And a God sitteth upon my lips.
My Word is accomplished every day!
And the desire of my heart realises itself, as that of Ptah when He createth!
I am Eternal; therefore all things are as my designs; therefore do all things obey my Word.

Therefore do Thou come forth unto me from Thine abode in the Silence: Unutterable Wisdom! All-Light! All-Power!
Thoth! Hermes! Mercury! Odin!
By whatever name I call Thee, Thou art still nameless to Eternity:. Come Thou forth, I say, and aid and guard me in this work of Art.
Thou, Star of the East, that didst conduct the Magi!
Thou art The Same all-present in Heaven and in Hell!
Thou that vibratest between the Light and the Darkness!
Rising, descending! Changing ever, yet ever The Same!
The Sun is Thy Father!
Thy Mother is the Moon!
The Wind hath borne Thee in its bosom: and Earth hath ever nourished the changeless Godhead of Thy Youth!
Come Thou forth, I say, come Thou forth!
And make all Spirits subject unto Me:
So that every Spirit of the Firmament
And of the Ether.
And of the Earth.
And under the Earth.
On dry land
And in the Water.
Of whirling Air
And of rushing Fire.
And every Spell and Scourge of God the Vast One, may be obedient unto Me!
I invoke the priestess of the Silver Star, Asi the Curved One, by the ritual of Silence.

I make open the gate of Bliss; I descend from the Palace of the Stars; I greet you, I embrace you, O children of Earth, that are gathered together in the Hall of Darkness.
(A pause.)
The Speech in the Silence.
The Words against the Son of Night.
The Voice of Tahuti in the Universe in the Presence of the Eternal.
The Formulas of Knowledge.
The Wisdom of Breath.
The Root of Vibration.
The Shaking of the Invisible.
The Rolling Asunder of the Darkness.
The Becoming Visible of Matter.
The Piercing of the Scales of the Crocodile.
The Breaking Forth of the Light!
There is an end of the speech; let the Silence of darkness be broken; let it return into the silence of light.

Also, generally the God invoked will have a certain text/poem inserted in the ritual - in the Israfel example Crowley uses the Exordium from the Golden Dawn. Often this will be a paean in the deity's "native language". This basic formula can be adapted to virtually any God or Goddess.

You should feel a strong connection with Djehuti (just my preferred spelling, not a correction ;) ) as an artist, you are working in his profession after all.

Brief analysis of the Name:

Try saying the name in slow motion. Whether you use the initial as a T or DJ you get the same effect. There is a build up behind the tongue before you release the sound. This is the disturbance in the negative veils before the bursting forth of Kether, or, if you prefer, the gestation of the idea in the subconscious before bursting forth as the AHA moment.

The initial sound bursts forth as a sudden blast of the built up energy being released. The breath is projected forward in an almost violent fashion. This is the appearance of Kether or the AHA moment of realisation.

The 'HU' section of the Name is the reigning in and controlling of the breath, or energy. The energy of Kether is reigned in and guided by Chokmah. The sudden flash of inspiration is analysed and formed into a useful application.

The final 'TI' is the more controlled retransmission of the original energy. The energy, now directed in a controlled way, is transmitted to Binah. The original idea is put into practice or passed on to others through writing or art.

The Name gives the function of the God. He is the God of Wisdom for sure but, as the inventer of writing, he is also the God of transmitting Wisdom. This is evidenced by His association with Chokmah and the function Chokmah performs in relation to Kether and Binah.

An artist should perform the same function. Whether he is comissioned to create a specific piece of art or he creates what feels natural to him, there is a connection with something higher. Some great inspiration flows through the Universe and the artist, manifesting on the page, canvas or whatever medium the artist works in. The artist recieves the inspiration, controls it and lets it flow naturally in the direction he must. The artist is Djehuti on some level.

As you say these are the greatest works you have yet created I suppose you are reaching a height of your ability never before reached by you. You are closer to being Djehuti than you have been before. Perhaps this is why you "continually come back to focusing on the rendering of Tahuti." Some part of you is understanding the connection which you might not have come to consciously yet.

Alternatively: maybe this is due to the trouble you are having completing the works. Perhaps it is a pointer for you to understand the nature of your relationship with Djehuti in order for you to find the missing element in fully becoming, and allowing the works to flow through you to creation.

In either case an invocation of the God is the perfect way to go. Please let us know how it went if you are comfortable with posting such a thing.

I'm looking forward to seeing these works :D
As for the ritual ... How ... do I go about performing that. Is it merely to be spoken aloud or is there an actual physical ritual to accompany it? Do you reccomend... uh... What do I do to pull this off?
The Invocation of Tahuti in Liber Israfel was originally written by Allan Bennett as an "Invocation to the Higher" for use in an evocation of the Spirit Taphthartharath. Crowley made a few stylistic changes to the main invocation and added additional material to the beginning and ending.

To answer your question, there is no formal ritual that accompanies Liber Israfel, but that does not mean that you cannot construct your own. I put together the following Ceremony as an example of one way in which this can be done. Note that although it is created using Ogdoadic methodology, it can easily be adapted to Golden Dawn working. I have listed such a method of adaptation abreviated in parentheses.

CEREMONIAL INVOCATION OF TAHUTI

Adapted from Liber Israfel by Philalethes

Time: The Day and Hour of Mercury
Bomos (Altar): Center of the Place of Working, facing east. Orange altar-cloth.
Equipment: Taper and Orange Lamp. Symbol of Mercury (The symbolism of the Mystical Tessera is appropriate for this purpose)
Magician: Mercury lamen, orange color charge

I

Perform the Setting of the Wards of Power (LBRP)

Battery: 1

Recite the following Preliminary Invocation:

Let your faces be toward me, O Shining Ones of the Company of Gods in celestial Un: for I, even I, am the First Servant of the Great One Khemenu.
Isis is behind me, her wings protect me:
Horus her son is before me in the mystery of silence:
Nephthys is my diadem of Light
And the serpent of power is upraised upon my brow.
Wherefore let your faces be towards me, O Shining Ones, as now established in right and truth I seek attunement with the Divine Flame of Splendor that I may be consummated with Wisdom and uplifted in Truth.

II

Battery: 1

Energize by Clavis Rei Primae, 2nd Formula (MP)

Visualize a spiral of light ascending clockwise from your feet filling your aura with a bright orange color.

Vibrate the Vowel "E" (as in set) 8 times in repeating cycles of 8 beats.

III

Battery: 1

Kindle the taper, then proceed to the East. Trace the Invoking Heptagram of Mercury. (GRH). Turn to face west and light the orange lamp upon the Bomos. Return to the West and face east.

IV

Battery: 4-4

Visualize the God-form of Thoth standing mighty and serene in the East of the place of working. Address the deity, invoking him thus:

Thee, Thee I invoke

Next, recite the utterance of the God, hearing it issued forth from the God-form thus:

Perform the Deific Formula vibrating the name TAHUTI. (Asumption of Godform)

Identified with the God, allow him to speak his utterance thus, from within the depth of your being:

Feel yourself awakening to the current of divine energy and inwardly uplifted in joyful and reverent response thereto. After returning to normal consciousness, allow the God-form to fade and perform the Rousing of the Citadels. (MP)

Recite a valediction to the God such as the following:

Thoth! Hermes! Mercury! Odin!
By whatever name I call Thee, Thou art nameless to Eternity.
There is an end of the speech.
Let the silence of darkness be broken: Let it return to the silence of light.

Invoking Tahuti

Last night I performed this invocation after my normal regimine of ritual; comprised of, the Qabalistic Cross, The Lesser Invoking Ritual of the Pentagram, The Greater Ritual of the Pentagram and the Middle Pillar. Where I would have chosen to meditate on my experiences, I performed the invocation of Tahuti. As I have rendered many images of Tahuti in the past, I surrounded myself with these images, that I may be innundated with the visage of the god which I was attempting to invoke. Inflaming myself with prayer,I read the text aloud and with the utmost conviction that I could muster. From the very beginning of the invocation I felt a light and warm tingling in my shoulders, neck and hands and my hips and feet began to feel hot. At approximately half way through the invocation my voice began to sound distant as though it echoed back at me from far away and I began to feel a bit light; like I was resting in my usual asana (kneeling, back straight, toes pointed back, ass on my heels and arms at my sides with thumbs overlapping the nails of my fore-fingers) but on ether. Everything felt as though it was moving very slowly.

as though it echoed back at me from far away.

I'd go into it more but I'm pressed for time.

I didn't really get much artwork done as it was late in the evening and I was flabberghasted by the experience, itself. I can say that it was beautiful and amazing and it was all done without any of the associated scents or colors of Tahuti. I plan on picking up some anise and some yellow cloth to make the most of this ritual. I can see it benefiting my artistic output very much.

I need more. Whatever else you can suggest.

Invoking Tahuti

Transported into an electrical fusion fire within the sun I thought, but the density of the neutrino flux was so great, I thought where am I? "Alcyon." Not in the sun, but in Alcyon. Looking at our star "the sun/apollo," from Alcyon, it appeared hollow and empty, and yet it shown, yet it was radiating, while lacking the flux density of life, it was still alive. so far away from Alcyon but sustained by a thin stream of nothingness unseen. Like an invisible cord powering a light at the edge of universe, now I am back! re-radiating Apollo's energy to all the stars on this side of our rock to all the heavens and giving thanks to Alcyon for the unseen rays of life she so generiously gives to all her stars.
I thank everyone who made this possible.

Greetings Hoor-Paar-Kraat,

Wish I would have seen your post sooner. I have posted something relavent to this here:

http://www.occultforums.com/showpost.php?p=44332&postcount=5

I too resonate strongly with Tahuti and while the commentary you will find above is in revision, you may find it useful.

By the way I'd like to see some of your art, especially any Thoth imagery - are they posted here on Occult Forums?

Best,

Omicron
