;)[/QUOTE] In my paradigm, astral is a huge multidimensional place with many universes in it, bigger than the physical. People mean different things when they say astral,so let me explain my view before I answer, it may be something different from you:

1)On this pysical plane, the world and body is made of physical stuff and the self inside the body is made of perceptions, mind and soul
2)On the astral plane, the world is made of perceptions and the self is the mind and soul
3) On the mental plane, the world is made of mind and the self is the soul
4) On the final plane, the world is soul and there is no self.

Given that, the only time I've been beyond astral was to the mental planes. My mind was no longer part of myself, I was a bubble of pure being. It was literally terrifyingly beautiful, and I couldn't bear it long so I left.
It may be the case that this was just the "high astral" though...So I don't know. I've never succeeded in being without self to my knowledge.

I consider all dimentions to be inter-connected and co-existing. So weather you be in a realm of pure thought or form or spirit you're still within the same confines of existance. The astral plains and other theoretical places of being, including our mundane reality, are all a part of existance. I believe the only thing that exists beyond existance is the abyss. -nothingness. Everything required to allow existance to be yet witout form of anykind. I believe if one decends into the abyss they may experience half realms or places that are just a fraction of existance pacted into one "bubble". So in theory it would be possible to experience a place of total bliss or total agony. Beyond these places, that only exist in the lower astral plains, is what I believe is as close to hell as people can get.

I think the lower one gets into the abyss the greater the energy drain on the astral vehicle. Since your astral body is composed of energy on the astral plains it tends to gravitate towards astral light. The lower one gets in the abyss the less astral light there is and the more will leak out of the being of a person until they are either kicked out (kinda like a reaction when you touch a hot stove) or consumed (If you left your hand on the stove it would cook and if somehow the stove could get hot enough your hand would vaporize). This process is similar to what happens to a being traveling into nothingness, they become nothing as their soul begins to vaporize. Or at least less and less of something they are. And this is why I believe this is hell- it acts like a realm of fire- burning the soul the deeper and deeper it gets.

So why travel into nothingness? To over come adversity. In the abyss one can percieve things that are counter productive to their astral being and can decend to burn off that portion. Think of it as the ultimate purification. Baptizism by dismal fire.
