Any advices for the average begeiner? ::raises hand:: I also tend to have memories of the life that I supposedly lived while I dream. Let's say I dream I'm a 30 year old man. I'll have 30 years worth of memories withen that dream. Of course I forget it when I wake up though...

My advice is one start a dream journal tonight. Not very hard just a note book, journal, diary just pieces of paper you write on. Then before you go to bed look at your journal and affirm to yourself your desire to remember your dreams. In order to gain awarness that one is dreaming while dreaming you must first become aware of what you are dreaming. So for tonight don't even worry about having an actually lucid dream because if you make yourself too eager you may not even remember your dream. Before you sleep set your journal under your pillow or bed, somewhere easy to remember
Two: The next day you wake before you open your eyes attempt to recall what you have drempt of. Spend five minutes maybe doing this. Get a clear picture and write it down. Write, or even draw it in a context that if comfortable to you. If simple sketches or blurbs are all you need to remember the dream, great. Just try to write down all the details. Now through out your day stop (I'd say three times is plenty) and look at what you wrote. If anythng else comes to mind- details emotions, or something that stands out. Put it in your journal down. Now is when you say to yourself "I wish to have lucid dreams". And take a moment to reflect upon your current environment.
Repeat these two steps for maybe a week to get a good journal started, always keep adding to it and close to your bed before you sleep. This is a good starting point for you to contemplate and reflect on your dreams. When you get a chance go to the local book store and pick up a copy of "lucid dreams in thirty days". I'm sorry I can't think of the authors at the moment, but this $10 book, with 90 pages, is all you'll ever need to learn how to have lucid dreams. And if you do the steps I gave you'll have a head start and be ready for the next phase of what basically is conditioning the mind to be aware of when you're dreaming. And then the next part is conditioning your mind to allow you control, without waking yourself up. Welcome to a world existing within yourself that you are God over. And the Sky is never the limit.

Hi, Ok well my tip would be to make sure you test your reality everyday as much as you can. Like maybe every couple of hours. What you do is read something then shut your eyes and read it again. If the words are the same then you know your not dreaming. Do stuff like that...things to prove that you are awake and not dreaming.
You must focus on this thought though and not just say it out of habit....you have to really think about the question(am I dreaming)and then after you have proved that your not dreaming its good to imagine what you wouldve done if you were dreaming. Really visualize it.
Do this technique whenever you think about it or if anything different happens during the day. (strange events etc). Then you will naturally do this in your sleep.
Another really good one to add to this is : As your going to sleep say to yourself in your head ' I will know when Im dreaming next and will remember ' something like that. If you say this as you start to sleep it kinda sticks in your head because it was the last thought that you had.
This technique works really really good in the mornings around those times that you just know that you'll go straight back into a dream when you shut your eyes. So mabey set your alarm clock for 30mins earlier and try it.
These two techniques worked really well for me.

I know when I'm dreaming the problem is when I'm dreaming I forget my real life. But I don't forget my dream when I'm awake.

If I am interpreting what you wrote correctly, it would seem like you have not gained true lucidity. I have only become lucid once, that I am aware of and can remember every detail of, and I knew that there was another life (day-to-day reality) that I was not a part of. However, it was at this moment of realisation that I awoke. From what I have read of other people's perceptions of lucidity, and even in my own experience, this is the biggest step in the process; the maintaining of lucidity. I recommend watching Richard Linklater's 'Waking Life', it helped me immensely, and among many other things, it dealt with a lot of what has been mentioned above, such as 'reality testing', no limits to what you can do, etc. The method I used to achieve lucidity involved looking at my hands periodically throughout the day for over two weeks, and eventually I did this in the dream realm, which was when the realisation hit me. Think about this for a moment, have you ever seen your hands within a dream before? Another thing I have done, mentioned in previous posts, that I am sure helped with this experience, involves continually writing down my dreams. I still record my dreams every morning, and one thing I have found very helpful is to remain in the position I find myself in when I awake. Distractions, or people waking me up are very unhelpful to remembering dreams, as it grounds you in waking reality too quickly, and aids in the forgetting of the dream. Well, this is about it as far as sharing my experience on the subject, as I haven't read any books on Lucid Dreaming, though I should, as this thread has reignited my interest. Again, I highly suggest the film Waking Life, or any of Linklater's films for that matter. Please respond with any input regarding your progress, and I will react in kind.

Ya, I have been keeping a dream diary for the past couple of weeks. Its a very good idea, i can remember my dreams very well now... My dreams always feel like real life only strange thigs happen that seem to be normal untill I wake up. And there always seems to be some sort of problem that I come across and need to solve.

Once you are comfortable remembering your dreams try finding a movie you like, something thought provoking and dream like let it play and fall alseep to it. Record you dreams after you awake. When you really gain control over your dreams you'll be able to play a movie and be a part of it while you dream.

In order to stay lucid its very important not to get too excited. I found that the more excited I got the more my breathing and heart beat would increase thus bringing me out of sleep. So if I did anything that was a real 'rush' I would breathe slowly. You gotta kinda cruse with it.
Thats easier said than done though..cause its very exciting at that moment of realisation.
Let alone if you do something cool like rip out someones heart with your fingers.
Anyone else ever done that? I went straight through the rib cage!! It was sick man! lolol
Try it..it makes you feel stronger or something hey.

I found that training yourself to look at your hands while entering your dream state helps me get my focus and realise that I am indeed dreaming.
Then the astral projection part is kindof hard to explain.
When I first was trying to project, I was'nt actually trying.
I was just mediatating, and performing some simple visualization and breathing.
I was doing square breathing(inhale in for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, exhale for 4 seconds, wait 4 seconds)... repeating this and extending my time from 4,5,6,7 seconds etc...This to me requies alot of focus, because you naturally want to rush parts of your breathing. VERY Important- when you are filling your lungs make sure you fill all of them.
Not just the upper, but the very lower part of your lungs as well.
Next,I would first focus on parts of my body(fingers, hands, wrist, elbows, arms, shoulders,
chest, abdomen, legs, knees, feet, head) making each part heavy and when
I completed my whole body, I would the "lighten" them.
Then I started visualizing a "forcefield" around my body. For this I actually open my eyes and put my hands in front of my face. Trying to see my aura. And then agumenting it.
Try looking around the outline of you hand. I find "seeing" an aura very hard and requires abit of practice. It does'nt come easy for me.
But one night while mediating I got to the "forcefield" part. I then started streching the field outward and then real close. After a couple of times I start feeling something trying to enter the forcefield. If you have ever accidently "electrocuted"/shocked yourself this was exactly how this "entering" felt. At the time I assumed something was trying to gain entry to my body. I was a southern baptist at the time(15 years old) and assumed that the devil had sent a demon to come and get me. I would get brave and try to really make my aura superwhite and very bright, but the attack only got more powerful. At first the attack was on my back or cheat, but then started includeding my whole body.
I kept mediating but stopped the forcefield thing. Until I was about 22 years old.
I was reading a book(soory but I don't recall the title or author) but It was recounting astral projections of several people. And then one story told how this man would envelope his body with light and then start vibrating faster and faster until he left his body.
This vibration was described as tinglely and shocking. Thats when it hit me. Nothing was trying to in, but my astral self was trying to get out.
Also it helped going to college and getting away from the brainwashing of the southern baptist religion.
When I realised it was me who was causing the "shocking", I did not panic and was able to vibrate onto the astral rather easy.
However, differenitating Lucid Dreaming and Actual Astral projection takes time.
Also don't try to project when sleeping next to someone. I can't do it.

troynall, this sounds like sleep paralysis, I can do it by will most of the time, if it is indeed the same thing you are talking about, did you start off feeling like you can't move? this is where that electricity feeling comes in for me, I then relax and just leave my body (this is the only way I can describe it), have you ever felt like there was something evil in the room during the paralysis part? (evil as in it dosen't seem to have your best interists in mind).
has anyone else had any experience with this?

yes in the between states, it seems we are the most afraid, for some reason that is where I feel the most entities , perhaps not evil but I have had felt evil or negative energy before, I honestly cant say for sure that is or was an evil entitiy, but I think it was my own mind creating it, like an illusion, but perhaps it was my own negativity that I felt, and perhaps we can feel our energy bodys around us in that state(hypnogogic) and by that I mean it could be our other selves we are sencing in this realm, but sometimes I think that the inbetween state is actually the other side(death) since it is the most intense state and our awareness or mine anyway seems to be the highest than rather than Im out of my body, also people claim more and more of fear in this state, that they can not difine nor exsplain.
