Automatic writing?
Original post: PhoenixR
I did a search for automatic writing in these forums and all I found was references to it, but not anyone here practicing it. So, does anyone here practice it and what have been your experiences? How did you go about it? I googled it and found what seem to be the basic steps: relax, be receptive, let your pen flow, don't try to consciously direct it. Does this sound correct? Looks too easy to me.

well i am planning to actually do this but i found other ways to talk to my guides and such for now. well ive only heard this from others but it seems to work pretty good if you can quite down your mind and than ask your question to yourself in your mind.
well it may sound wasy but i would say for some it wouldnt be. it is because when you try this out and dont get an answer for awhile you might start to question this or something. also that it takes practice to know who is writing and such....so it isnt all that easy. well i plan to try this this week on christmas eve...

For the most part I focus on Automatic Drawing rather than automatic writing but I've done quite a bit of both. For me to tell you my particular methods would prove worthless to you because I believe that such systems tend to be done on a very personal level.
What I'd suggest is that you do a bit of research into the methods used by Austin Osman Spare.
Before I go any further I'd just like to know to what end you intend to employ this practice. Are you looking to unleash some bottled up ideas from within yourself, use it as a method of channeling spirits or just do it for the sake of doing it?
Remember that the belief in belief is more than enough for you to accomplish just about anything but look upon your methods and reasonings with great care before going too far into anything of this nature.

I've tried automatic writing before and was successful after quite a few times where my mind would not shut off from everyday thoughts. A few times I thought I had it, then realised it was probably my subconscious beating out some lines. When I finally achieved the act more than once, I knew the difference. A fair while ago now, I co-opted with a past life meditation. By the end of the session my hand was tired, I vaguely remembered pieces of what I had written and I had a story from seemingly nowhere about a girl who had obvious trust issues with men, had 2 sisters and quite a detailed interaction of a specific incident. Perhaps some could say my mind created it, but even studying writing recently has not improved the fact that I am not & have never been one to create fictional stories. That one particular 'story/ recollection/ whatever else' convinced me that I had done it. I have done it several times since, however like Hoor- paar- Kraat, I have since done automatic drawing, which i have been alot more successful with, perhaps because of my history with the arts, they figure I can do a better job on a piece of imagery, than a piece of written work.

when you become a scribe of automatic writing you'll notice the most crucial information comes when there is no pen around.
and during these times, when a pen is finally found, it will be writ in blue ink sometimes, or black ink sometimes, and this is no coincidence
for me, the signals or messages come suddenly, and i must grab a pen and write it down or immediately forget it
i tend to write in scribbles and very large using lots of paper when i do it
because it is done in a rush
basically, when i am auto writing, i am listening to spirits and writing down what they are saying.
it's not really so much "relaxing" as it is mindblowing
it is like sex when it happens
and it decides when its going to happen
you can try to make all the conditions right, but that doesn't always work
it decides

Here's a post in my blog that may be useful...although it deals with automatic drawing and AOS more than automatic writings.

Well today, I've tried automatic writing and it seems to have worked fine. I talked to my shadow and it seemed to work out I would say...I posted about 3 pages worth of typing when I talked to him...

That is what I did and it seemed easier...though I can't say for sure as I haven't tried to do so in writing. I don't know really...it was more better as I didn't waste paper or anything...

Both work the same way. That is writing and or typing. With non-automatic writing you apply a so-called error correction based on how our writing (syntax, grammar and all) is established. In automatic writing you tap directly into the thought matter. Very much like dreaming in a way.
I used to do a lot of automatic writing, both with pen and through typing. It's fun to have direct brain-hand coordination without the interference of eyes.

yeah you know Ive been wondering about that, Ill have to try that technique.
besides, its too much of a hassle to get out the paper and pen when I spend so much time at my computer.

I use to do it a lot when my partner was able to function and think clearly. We experimented with it quiet a bit. He never did the writing, I always did. He was always there to witness and sak questions if need be.
We had pretty good success with it for awhile. I just went into a meditative state and held the pen and it wrote. Thing was, if he was not there to take the pages away when I filled one up so I may begin writing on the one beneath it, then I kept writing without realizing I ran out of paper and I wrote on the couch, bed, coffee table, etc. But....I never stopped, I just kept writing. I would be tired when we quit. I never remembered who was writing through me either and the words on the paper were foreign to me.

Done it. I guess I may post some in the art section too. Usually for me, whatever comes to me i try to express in some language - although all too often it is in some language that is very foreign (sometimes i suspect its nonhuman) - and sometimes its in forms that people "claim" look arabic or oriental. I'm pretty sure its not though. Oh and in most cases i have no idea "who" is passing the information through me or if its straight out of a pl memory.

I found automatic writing easy, actually. OK I did it after I advanced quite a bit in meditation, but yeah. I found it easy. I just have the pen in hand, the paper on the desk, close my eyes and let the pen flow. Usually it feels like some invisible force is guiding it.
