hello. i am a long time spy, first time participator here.
i have a question about sensing energy. how can one improve their ability to sense energy? are there exercises for sharpening the senses? i have read the information posted at psi palatium, and it is good, but i am looking for something a bit more exhaustive. does anyone have any additional and more explicit information?

bring your hands near extreme heat sources as well cold
also try feeling your own field (hands near each other)
feeling plants, trees and animals
try feeling electrical wiring, go near electricity poles
there is awfully lot out here, just go and feel it

will get clearer by themselves

Either relax into a meditative state, or focus your attention using deliberate concentration. Perhaps you can practice heightening your senses, I find that the same magic that allows me to do this allows me to open up to energy sensations. With a little practice you can probably make it so it is always on. Of course, that comes with it's own perils. Do be responsible.

both are very valid . . . how about getting into a meditative state , then go around feeling things . . thinking of nothing else and not forcing the feeling . . but just being in complete nonthought . . just observe

well i would suggest to blindfold yourself when at home and use all other senses to find way around. since humans use their sight the most it would seem rather i would say good to strengthen your other senses and it should help you be able to smell, feel, maybe tase, nad hear energy i would hope.

I'm not saying you should go out and get attuned to reiki just to sense energy, just that the skill can be attuned to or initiated. I believe in some schools there is a specific type of initiation for the ability to sense energy stronger... you could search google to find it. I've also heard people who have gotten reiki attunements and they could see and/or sense energy afterward.

i never had to learn to sense energy, but i put in great effort to strengthen my existing abilities.
what i found worked for me was to increase all of my sensitivities. i would dedicate a day to fully using each sense. a week all at once, or with breaks in-between, depending on time allowances and your tolerance. it gets very intense if you really dedicate yourself to truly sensing things beyond the surface level.

day 1=sight: every object, person, plant, etc you see, look at it. closer. see every detail. study it. observe in such detail that when you close your eyes for a moment, you can picture it. draw it in your mind. visually own it.

day 2=hearing: start with music that you know really well. a favorite song, even. the one you can sing in the shower. as you sit and listen to it, listen to one instrument. hear every crash of the highhat, each thump of the bass drum, each string in each chord of every strum of the guitar. the breaths of the singer. hear every note, every single note alone. get lost in the song entirely. hear it from inside as well as from outside.
now do the same thing with silence. sit in silence. then hear the wind. hear traffic. hear the electronic buzz of an appliance. hear your breathing. lie down and listen to the ground. whisper aloud, and hear the sound of your own muted voice. hear every sound in every direction as far as you possibly can.

day 3=touch: lie in bed nude. close your eyes and keep them shut. feel every inch of yourself. everywhere. explore your own textures. the varying coarseness of of the different types of hair. where your skin is soft, where it is rough, how firm or pliable the surfaces are. flex a muscle and feel the change. explore like you are a child, and this body you have inhabited for your entire life is completely unknown to you. relearn your shape and form. do this for a couple of hours, at the very least.
if you really feel you are done with this exercise, open your eyes, get up (don't get dressed) and walk around your house and touch everything and anything that you like. notice how things feel against your hands, feet, thighs, stomach, neck, back, hips, chest, lips, nose, et cetera.

day 4=scent: do not wear perfume, cologne, et cetera today. wear unscented deodorant or none, if willing. and basically, smell everything. your skin, your breakfast, fruit, bread, the air outside...good smells, bad smell; it doesn't matter. inhale deeply and really think about each smell. acknowledge any and all emotions, memories, and other sensory simuli that these smells bring to mind.

day 5=taste: personally, i sense energies primarily by taste, which i've been told is wierd, but anyway. so i didn't really just spend a day tasting stuff. i spend every day doing that for no particular reason whatsoever. in the spirit of being helpful, though, i will offer my suggestions regarding taste anyway...
indulge your taste buds. overwhelm them with good things. encourage sweet, salty, sour, and bitter. learn to recognize the different levels of these. have fresh coffee. wait a few hours, now have some old coffee. notice the difference in bitterness. things like that.

next, with your highly tuned and trained senses fully awake, go out to the mall or a park or some very anonymous, peopled place.
use the senses you have to tell you the mood people are in as they walk past. as you concentrate on recognizing moods, your energy sensitivity will begin to pick up on the common energy of angry people, happy people, shy people, tired people, horny people, excited people, whatever...
this will take practice, a clear head, and time.
