Hi, did anyone here have any interesting magical results using mind machines? I own a machine which is good but I've mainly played with it as a toy for self-hypnosis.
I've started thinking about using it in combination with (magical) visualization and/or sigil magick, for various purposes. Did anyone get any interesting results? Contact me here or in PM for an open discussion!

Mind machines use LED-glasses and earphones producing specific brainwaves.

I've used the headphones before, but never the lights. The brainwave generators are a great way to slip into a trance rather easily, if you've found the right combination of frequencies that work for you. It's been a while since I've looked into sigil magic, but that's of the chaos magic paradigm isn't it? Like, you create the sigil with intent, then "fire" it into your subconscious during a moment of no-thought (I can't remember the technical word for it)? If it's what I'm thinking of, it could be used successfully most likely. You can lower your brainwaves pretty far with concentration and the headphones, so it would probably mimic the effect needed to fire the sigil at some point.Mind machines use LED-glasses and earphones producing specific brainwaves.

Hi Crash, yes, that's what I suspect too, and was thinking to develop some system around it. Therefore I was looking for some people with experience with this. Perhaps I'm the first.

It's an interesting theory, and chaos is probably the paradigm I'm most aligned with, so I might start testing it out. I could never get into the textbook chaotic "death posturing" and forcing myself through exertion to become unconscious though, but I think I could get into this other path rather easily, as I've got the tools already. I'd like to help you in testing this out, once I brush up on some reading.
How do you think that one would go about even starting in on this? I've been pouring over some ideas, and here's a basic framework that I've thought up:
1. Formulate your intent.
2. Create the sigil.
3. Use the mind machines to go into deep trance.
[Here's where I get shaky, because I'm not sure exactly when would be the best time to fire it.]
4a. Fire it when you hit the exact moment when you would've AP'd (had you been wanting to do that).
4b. Concentrate on the sigil throughout the entire process until your brainwaves drop below a level of sustaining consciousness, and you black-out, thereby firing the sigil.
4c. Wait until you get OOB and fire it into the astral realms.
I'm clearly biased towards AP-related ones though, as that's what I've had the most experience with, but I'm interested in testing these out. From what I read a while back, sigil magic revolves around tricking and imprinting intent into your subconscious. I'm not sure whether it would be easier or not to trick it in the physical or astral planes. Some interesting stuff you've brought up, it's got my gears working.

That was more or less how I would do too if I had taken a chaos approach. Particularly the 4b method, since I don't know enough about charging.
Since I use the LEDs too, and it's a very important part (the sound for me is only a very tiny part of the effect) - I can't look at any piece of paper in the middle of session. I don't know anything about how to connect a charging to AP or OOB or whatever. Perhaps a "crash course" in these ways? Especially 4a and 4c sounded interesting to me, but I didn't understand you there.
Thanks, yes I think it has potential.
I don't know about this technique. I am no chaos magician, more CM for me, but I love my little mindmachine, and I did some self-hypno stuff which became pretty strong, so I think I'm onto something here.Crash Test Dummy wrote:I could never get into the textbook chaotic "death posturing" and forcing myself through exertion to become unconscious though

As for how to do any of this, I think we're getting into uncharted waters out here with a sort of techno-magic, unless I missed the Crowely chapter on mind machines. How do you work your sigil magic? Is it anywhere close to what I've described? On my totem of occult knowledge, I only have a very tiny bit of CM, and the only real things I can remember are "Don't go out trying to summon the Goetia on your first try," and "Paint these symbols with glaring, clashing colors and hang them on the compass points of your room." If I knew how you normally do your sigils, I could try to think of some alternative options that might make more sense than my previous paragraph of rambling.
What I'm thinking about now is how to exploit the strengths of the mind machines, and why they are so successful. Where do these little intersections of magic/astral/reality occur, and how do we tap into them? Suffice to say, I'm going to be heading off to a lot of bookstores and libraries over the course of the next week. This has really piqued my interest.
I don't either, quite honestly. Those were just some prototype ideas I came up with that seemed plausible and were the only things I could think of that wouldn't have me completely talking out of my ass. I've never tried any of them, but I'm sure that's going to change in the future. I'm not sure on the mechanics of sigil magic, but I figured that if you were near the point where you could AP, or actually AP'ing, it would somehow be stronger due to the fact that your spirit/mind/soul/whatever was actually in a malleable reality; you could use the changeable nature of the astral to aid your spell. The trance-state is a large part of many occult practices, so there must be some inherent power or benefit to it, as if the trance is putting your mind at some sort of planar crossroads - with signs of "astral to the left," "magic to the right," and "divine straight ahead." Not knowing the actual reasons for either AP or magic, I just assumed they share some dimensional boundries and there might be a connection to be made. As I'm re-reading this though, if you didn't understand me earlier, this probably just sounds completely insane now. So if I make no sense, just smile and nod, and I'll try to tone it down a bit. My mind is just throwing things out here now, and my hands are willingly obeying, to the detriment of my conscious saying "Slow down, you're not making any sense."I don't know anything about how to connect a charging to AP or OOB or whatever. Perhaps a "crash course" in these ways?

Well, I don't do any sigil magick normally, since I've been too busy with CM. I've made a few tries about 6 months ago to charge via a) orgasm and b) meditation and c) spinning around like crazy. None of these 3 intents came true, so I guess I didn't charge properly.
Please let me know if you find any interesting books or articles about this!

Yes, they definitely work. Before I started practicing magick, it ruthlessly took my down to the brain frequency that it was programmed to do. Nowadays, it's more that I will allow it to take me down. I guess I've gained some control over my brain.
But anyway... to return to the topic, another option would be to make a mantra from the chaos sigil, and chant that one while going down. OR should one only chant it at a specific time? And how do I know when that time is?
