To realise that you are the soul, is the entrance to the kingdom of heaven. Read the teachings of Jesus without the dogmas attached to them, and the other gnostic bibles that didn't make it into the "official".
To pretend that the human has the soul, is the greatest sin and one is already is in hell (on earth). How can something mortal ever be a container for something immortal? Is that not totally absurd?

no insult intended, your theoretical situation was an issue i had serious struggles with at the beginning of my conversion, i had a dream that cleared it up for me, your theory is basing the guarantee to heaven in human terms established generations after even, Christ was alive, so how can any human know the mind of a god?
like He asked in my dream..."who can judge my creations but me?"
even if hypothetically, people are passing judgement on people that should only be a god's right knowing that heart more so than any human is capable of, i have faith in my Lord, not the pearly gates, conceived ideals about heaven/hell, any priest or any other mere human struggling through this world no different than i am.
what if the christian idealogy of heaven and hell was correct, i don't think much would change, God would look into the heart of the person standing before Him and judge at that time, where does this saint peter come from?

Half of humans can't even find their own country on a globe. So i'm not particularly worried about their superstitions & cults (aka religions). Humans are a quasi-sentient species, don't get too caught up in following the herd.
But just going with the hypothetical situation you describe... I'd tell god that he needs to grow up.
As for torment & suffering... what can truly cause torment & suffering? hint: it's not your environment. one's capacity for bliss is in fact independent of the events & sensations that surround a person. Feeling despair over something as simple as eternal fire & torture, is of no consequence or interest to the enlightened. Which, properly understood, would render a hellfire-christian-god kinda petty & impotent.

Why should I go to hell? Why should I go to heaven? I'd say, that while I am upon the Earth now, I've experienced both throughout my life already. LOL After I die, maybe I should just stay on Earth and go see all of the places that I've missed due to not having the money to go see them? Then I'll go wherever after that. So why not say, the hell with both and go wherever I want to? Does it say anywhere that I can't? LOL Will someone just, arbitrarily appear after I die to take me to heaven or hell and force me to choose or go to one or the other? As for the silly pearly gates. Seriously. Does anyone actually know, what a pearl is? As far as I can remember, a pearl basically is a foreign object that had entered into the oyster. Over time, it forms a hardened pearl which really is formed to protect the oyster from harm. Kind of like an insect bite that we'd get that would harm us if our body wouldn't form a kind of protective layer around the bite, so the poison from it that would enter into our blood stream wouldn't make us die. It's kind of like a tumor if anything. So basically, what do we have then that a pearl is? In knowing what I told you here, it's really not a treasure, it's actually nothing at all! It's beautiful but it's not as beautiful as say, a gemstone, crystal or love that we can receive as well as give to another that we love.
To not continue my ramblings, unless someone forces me to make a decision as to where I'm suppose to go, I'm not going there unless I want to!
