Hello all!; ASCs & occultism

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law.
Hello, everyone. I'm new here so I thought I'd introduce myself. That done, I've a question, which will follow shortly.
I've always been interested in altered states of consciousness, even as a kid pressing on my eyelids to generate cool looking phosphenes and staring at blinds for far too long until they started to waver...
I recently (by which I mean, in the past two years or so) developed an intense interest in occultism, Thelema, Western Esotericism, and the like. Ergo, I mixed the two...
What's been ya'll's experience of altered states vis-a-vis occultism? That is, when you do LBRP or yoga to enter a "trance" state, is there a real, noticeable difference in the two states?
Can ceremonial magick be utilized to direct or control psychedelic states? (I know of someone who, in order to "get control" over a particularly odd LSD trip, banished using the Star Ruby and thereafter felt in control again)...
Can ceremonial magick be utilized to induce altered or psychedelic states?
Thanks,
Fox

It is far easier to use drugs to induce altered or psychedelic states.
Nevertheless, with enough mental discipline you may train the brain into producing its own chemicals (adrenaline is a more popular one, possibly the most used of any occultist... oestrogen! ). Some research into neurology, psychology, and meditation should see you on your way.

Second, don't do drugs. You will lose brain cells all in due time. Don't have to quicken the process.Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law.
To answer your question...yes. lol Magick can basically do anything, that is if you know how to utilize it. The question I would have to ask you though is why do you want to alter your state of mind in the first place? Trance, I understand. Psychedelic trips are a waste of time in my opinion though. Can ceremonial magick be utilized to induce altered or psychedelic states?
You know there are a whole bunch of different kinds of altered states of consciousness. I normally go for the meditative trance in order to clear my head of junk. There is also the livid dream state which I enjoy. What's been ya'll's experience of altered states vis-a-vis occultism? That is, when you do LBRP or yoga to enter a "trance" state, is there a real, noticeable difference in the two states?
Haha! Maybe you should try training the brain to release your inner DMT! Nah... don't though. The DMT chemical that naturally occurs in the human brain is said to only be released when someone dies. That's why we hear about people dying "looking so peaceful" or the accounts from those with near-death experiences "seeing the white light" and other visions and such.Nevertheless, with enough mental discipline you may train the brain into producing its own chemicals (adrenaline is a more popular one, possibly the most used of any occultist... oestrogen! ). i'm glad you've joined our community!
i disagree with the don't do drugs dicta.
maybe don't recreationaly do drugs, but they are great ritually, and being a ceremonialist gives you an amazing amount of control over the experience in my...well...experience. a good friend of mine did a bunch of shrooms (a really large dose for a noob) for the first time and really enjoyed the experience, despite feeling like he was covered in creepy crawly bugs the whole time, because his occult studies and practices of meditation gave him a lot of grounding on what was real, and what was hallucination, so he didn't care that he was infested by fake bugs...just stared at the snakes and caduceus staves and weird shit that was coming up in the campfire.
to 'ritually' do a psychadellic, is like, twice a year though, in my opinion. they don't teach you truth, but they do give you cool food for thought, among other things.
i definitely feel the trance states when i perform ritual, usually when the ritual is over with (b/c when in a trance, you are doing something, not concentrating on how you're feeling).
blessings, hopefully you find a good community here

Okay he just proved my point. Do you want to do drugs and feel like the above example?

i induce trance states without any use of ceremonial magic. ceremony is similar to training wheels on a bicycle. we're meant to advance beyond it. i find that one effective method (among many others) is drug-free sensory deprivation in the context of meditation. i've trained my brain chemistry to allow me to trigger casual 'wake-dreaming' without any aberrant side-effects.foxmulder710;370916 wrote: Can ceremonial magick be utilized to direct or control psychedelic states?
