NLP and my return to magnificence!
Original post: winged one
Ok...thanks..to all...
Yes and personal responsibility keeps one from being a victim or giving in to the concept of "fate"...which I'm not a fan of. I find regardless of method, technique or therapy...if I don't listen to my heart that's what gets me into trouble. The previous programming...or choices I've made to believe a certain way have certainly made for some interesting inner conflicts. I have another question...when does one know when it's time to move on from a friend, especially when there's no overt conflict to propel the split? In fact I can't really put my finger on why the relationship is a problem. But my heart seems to think it's time to move on. The only problem is I'm such a chicken when it comes to this stuff and I don't know how to handle it. She's basically a good person..and I'm moving in March to another city...but I don't want to run away from this situation..I want to actually handle it. Is moving on from a friend ever easy?
Ok, you may be wondering why the heck I brought this up....well it seems to have come up after the workshop. Ackkk...I'm confused.
And thanks so much to everyone who has responded!

Points taken.
But even though the parts model is considered obselete by those, there are these who still can benefit from it. When unpacking histories, it can be useful to consider "parts" for one to "sort out" events before they get put back together in a more useful way.
Obsolete computers still compute, is what I'm getting at.

Winged One,
Congratulations on your return to magnificence! I've been doing NLP for years and it's always baffled me why more magicians don't look into it. Personally I love all Bandler's stuff, but can't stand most of the rehashes for sale. I use NLP extensively for: belief shifting (surprised, huh?), invocations, magical trancework including meditations and 'pathworkings' (I never think of them as that, but hey ...).
I heartily recommend to anyone that they go and do this. True, nothing works for everybody all the time, but that gives no reason to dismiss it. I consider it largely a model of magic. Have fun.

Phil Fraber writes specifically about the link. Jan Fries uses a lot of NLP in his work. As does U.D. Frater.
I still like the standards "Using Your Brain for a Change" and "Tranceformations" by Bandler to start. Also, Robert Anton Wilson uses it extensively (did Wilson learn it from Bandler, or the other way around?).
If you must go and feed your left brain, check out the latest Joseph O'Conner books. Stay away from Michael Hall until you have experience. He makes easy stuff complicated.
Unfortunately, the latest stuff is not in print. The best way to get at it is to listen to the live seminar DHE2000.

Yes, Meph, I would agree on that list. I also add a related book, Don't Think of Purple Spotted Oranges by Martin Shervington. It really doesn't get any simpler to read than this.

I have a few years under my belt too, and add yet another validation of Meph's book list.
Though it seems disingenuous to insinuate that Bandler's work is not a "rehash" in it of itself...
There are a lot of NLP books out there that don't mesh with me and consequently I don't like, but reading the multitudinous perspectives on NLP and hypnosis alike help to fill in the gaps that Bandler inevitably leaves.
Consider who Bandler gives props to ... in his seminars and books ...
