What would you like to see added to the board?

Hello again ^_^

So, this site is fairly new right now, despite the volume of posts. I'd really like to hear from you guys on what you would like to see added to the site, we're using a very flexible website platform, which can be extended in many ways, and additionally I work primarily as a web developer, this is the platform I develop for, so we can look at writing custom software somewhere down the lines. I do enjoy writing code

If you think of anything, let us know: make a poll and we can take a vote on it. Everyone can voice their opinion, and we can come to some sort of conclusion.

I look forward to hearing your suggestions.

I guess I would like to see a nicer image next to all the topics.... At the moment the images looks like graphs which makes me think of polls.... they cant all be polls and I know they aren't, but thats what i see.

Maybe a little logo to give some kind of accent that reflects the forum?

I'm looking at a redesign of the template soon, probably a kind of "Ancient parchment" look and feel, so I'll try to come up with something in line with that.

I do see what you mean though, the board icons look a lot like graphs, I think they're supposed to be a cityscape, not 100% sure

I second Enlilki. A matter of personal preference, but I would also like to see a more... elegant banner. I'm not a graphic designer, but I'm sure there are at least a few in our midst.

Also, is there any way to divide a person's signature from the rest of their posts?

Finally, after the momentum builds, I would like to see a "Projects" link at the top of the page, much like I imagine the articles will be.

Ancient parchment style sounds good. Gothic, medieval, classical etc.... they are my kinds of style.

I was thinking about the template a little more, I would probably go with an aged paper background, with burnt edges, black text and links in the current red. Calligraphy-style banner at the top of the page, with the menu links on a sort of wax-seal background.
Something like that?

I should be able to modify the forum code to insert a horizontal rule between the post and the signature, I'll have a look into that just now, it should be an easy enough modification (if I can find the bit of code that draws the posts lol)

That should work now, I've modified the php slightly, and added a new class to the CSS, you'll need to clear your browser cache if you still can't see the line above the signature, this can usually be done by pressing ctrl+f5, or hold shift and click reload, but it depends on the browser, there's usually something for it on a menu somewhere, in the options.

Basically you need to clear your temporary internet files for this page for the new stylesheet to be downloaded

One thing I always missed at the old site was a spell sharing section. I understand why it would be frowned upon with spell begging, if pepole was all over the forum nagging for spells, however on one site I have posted on there was one forum where spell sharing was allowed and then it was disallowed on the rest of the forum. Now there are some benefit to a spell sharing forum, yes a spell you write yourself is often the most effective, but sometimes you do not have the time to do that work, also you can get allot of inspiration from reading spells others have written. And I for once often like to write and post spells for others to read as I like others to read my work. I think that a spell sharing forum could be a valuble addition to the forum. For while many do not see it as a worthy reason to join an occult forum to get spells, it is not to deney that many occultist are in it for the practical side so I think many would enjoy such a sub forum.

One issue that comes up is that they tend to bring a lot of flaming by practitioners of opposing paradigms, and then the laziness of the mods involved in the website who don't want to police that....

I have not really seen any more flaming in relation to spell sharing forums than other forums, some flames will come on a forum such a this witch is designed for so many pepole of different paths to work together, but those will come generally on the forum and not particulary in a spell sharing forum I would think, not in my experience at least.

Ok, so by large, folks seem to be keen on the spell sharing board.

I'd be inclined to put it under the "Magick" group, but the question is where?

Perhaps near the top, where it will be easily spotted? Or in its alphabetical place?

I am partial to alpabetical. I think that is a easy way to find something by and a good way to sort something, but then that might be just my preferance.

I get a LOT of hits through my store's Spell-Book, and it isn't even all that in depth (save for a working or three).
It would be great for traffic.
What sucks is when authors start harvesting it/them for salable works, with no credit or compensation.

If everyone is okay with that likelihood, I say do it.
Limit the posts to Spells-Only, and throw in sub-forums for discussing the finer points, leaving the Spellbook "Discussion-Free".
"Spells in one thread, and discussion in another."

You're going to get plagiarized, but you'll still be a motive force in accurate spell composition.

Well, the terms and conditions includes Open Documentation Licensing, just like Wikipedia. Anything lifted from the board must be attributed to the source, and include the ODL, otherwise you're commiting copyleft non-attribution (which, legally, is equivalent to copyright infringement), so stuff lifted from here will need to point people back here

How about instead of the single big section for this, we could instead make a subsection in each of the discussion sections for the actual methodology/spells/what have you, which would be posted there?
