In need of a guide
In need of a guide
I have only recently begun seriously studying the occult, though I have felt the pull of magickal energies for my entire life. I have come to a point where, despite the incredible wealth of books that the internet has afforded me, am in need of a mentor. A physical breathing person that I can meet face-to-face and from whom can receive personalized instruction. I have absolutely no idea how to go about doing this. Any advice on the subject will be appreciated.

What do you want to know?
Re: In need of a guide
Well, if you're looking for someone to meet in person, let us know what city you're in, and maybe someone will come forward to help
Failing that, you could go to your local occult shop and ask for information on moots and suchlike gatherings, which can be a good place to find someone who can help you, although sometimes they're more like witches meeting up for a pint, but at the least you can always talk about things there, and maybe someone can point you in the right direction.

I'm willing to chat with yah. I don't know if we live close to meet up, but we can chat on Yahoo Messenger, if you have that, would be easier then a forum if you want more one on one discussion in one setting. Where are you from? What path is your interest? Ceremonial, pagan, wiccan?
My yahoo messenger ID is Mystica93srvdv@yahoo.com feel free to add me if you want.

gave you diamonds gave you emeralds weighed you down with precious stones, laid my finger on the trigger, took you down up off your throne, now i'm so alone, lay down slowly on the right side of my bed, whisper so softly oh so softly shots ring out inside my head, i took you in my arms the night was raining lead, kissed you gently oh so gently for the time we had was spent. Home is where, you find it, home is where, we hide it,

Depending on what you're interested in, I'd be willing to teach what I know.

Just keep in mind that a mentor can not fully teach you about magick or Wicca (or whatever path you choose to take, if any at all). They can only tell you what they have done. You must make your own path, and with that, teach yourself. Its like traveling down a long road (which of course is the study of the occult in general) then you come to a 6-way intersection, which is were you are now, acquiring a teacher won't progress you down any of those roads, but it might close some or open a few more.

Thank you for all of the replies, and my apologies for not responding sooner. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and am most interested in Ceremonial Magick and Tarot. I am not in need of any piece of specific information, but I need someone to act as many a music teacher has acted for me in the past. In short, I learn best from a single teacher in person. I do not expect an all-knowing master, but merely someone to guide me along this particular stretch of my path. Someone to make sure that I'm keeping up with my daily rituals, someone to guide me through making my tools, maybe even someone with a lesson plan that makes me stick to it. I have trouble motivating myself sometimes, but I can rally around a teacher very well.
Again, thank all of you for your advice, and I hope to post and read more often.

If your interest lies in ceremonial magic, have you considered joining an order? From what I understand, there is a cult-like atmosphere, but the various levels of initiation provide a solid base for magical workings within that paradigm.
