Facebook connect

Post by Vashta »

Hello all,

As you may have noticed, the site now has a Facebook connect feature, which is part of a push towards social media integration.

I know the login box is a little bigger than usual, but I'm playing with the stylesheets to see if we can mak it a bit smaller for you.

There should be an option to integrate existing accounts with Facebook, and of course to create new accounts using Facebook Connect. Let me know if it gives you any trouble. If you can't log in, send an email to support@occultforum.org and I'll see what we can do for you.

I don't know what this means, I don't use Facebook (privacy reasons).

Well, because Facebook has something in the vicinity of half a billion users, it makes some sense as a login option, it just means if you use facebook, you can log in here with a single click. Makes it into an easier experience, it's by no means essential, you can still log in with your existing account.

Also, because I do try to keep in mind that by the very definition of the word, occultists can be quite secretive people, the facebook login will offer for you to create a username that isn't your facebook username. It's not a huge security barrier, but it provides a level of obfuscation. People won't be able to look you up on facebook from your username here, it's purely an authentication thing.

Also, Facebook connect logins are almost guaranteed not to be spammers, as Facebook ban spammers at their end.

Basically, it's about convenience, I'm using it all the time now because it's just so easy to log in :P You don't have to use it if you don't want to, it won't affect regular logins in any way, but it's an option if you're comfortable with it.

I wasn't complaining, simply saying I didn't understand. I suppose now I do.
