Hi everyone
Hi everyone
I’m new here. I’m not really into magick but I’d like to learn. My problem is that I’m a scatterbrain and have big problems concentrating, so I think I need to learn to meditate or something first. I’m a bit of a spirituality/religion nerd – I don’t do much, but I like reading and learning about it. I think at heart I’m a latent Chaos magician – I don’t know much about it, but more than anything it seems to resonate deeply with me. I also like Crowley [moresarcasm] , modern Paganism [rolleyes] , Buddhism [bored] , Taoism [happy2] , philosophy [confused] , some aspects of Satanism [devil] , and Jesus [shh] (as a philosopher - I’m not into the Christ stuff).
See you around!

Hiya and welcome.
I am currently studying Everythingever. One day I hope to qualify, lol [rofl] ,but not in this lifetime,as there's always so much more to learn about.
As our Penelope [Pandora] would say: Infonaut. [geek2]
Might this be a suitable term that describes you? [idea]

Welcome Devilish Rebel
Philosophers are greatly welcomed,What's your definition of "Magick"? Be careful with words like scatterbrain, i always seem to find it inaccurate in describing the way a person's mind works. Being overly focused on something makes one scatterbrained in terms of everything else. Could it be that you are over focused on something else, or is a quick chain of gaining and losing interest in things. This would very describe my own scatterbrainess.

Welcome
I know what it's like to have trouble concentrating on an area of study, but stick with it and you'll get the hang of it mate.

"The path of the Sage is called
'The Path of Illumination'
he who gives himself to this path
is like a block of wood
that gives itself to the chisel-
cut by cut it is honed to perfection"
- DDJ, Verse 27
"It's still magic even if you know how it's done." - Terry Pratchett

Hi there! Poking around in lots of different boxes? Nameha's "infonaut" is my favourite term for that
it's great, and hopefully you can find some simulating discussion here in all of your areas of interest. Come and contribute!

Your head's like mine, like all our heads; big enough to contain every god and devil there ever was. Big enough to hold the weight of oceans and the turning stars. Whole universes fit in there! But what do we choose to keep in this miraculous cabinet? Little broken things, sad trinkets that we play with over and over. The world turns our key and we play the same little tune again and again and we think that tunes are all we are.

Re: Hi everyone
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.
And thanks Penelope - I love the word infonaut, and I'll definately use it.
I like the word psychonaut too, but I Googled it a little while ago and it seems to have lots of drug conotations now. I don't take or particularly like drugs, so I was a bit dissappointed. But infonaught is just as good.

I'm not sure I'd call myself a philosopher, but I do really respect philosophy as a spiritual path, and that aspect of it is underrated I think.
Hmmm, my definition of magick? I'm not sure I can define it, but I like the word magick - with the K on the end - because it seems to bridge a gap between the theory or theology of a spitual path, and the practice. And it also bridges a gap between mundane and supernatural aspects of spirituality. I'm not sure I'm explaining myself very well, so here's some examples of what I'd understand magick with a K to be;
Anything that informs our concrete ideas and intuitions about spirituality
A philosopher reconcilling him or herself with death and all the horrible things in the world by thinking things
An aetheitic Buddhist doing much the same through meditative practice
Ritual
A Christian believing that Jesus really did rise from the dead and died for our sins
A Catholic believing that wine and bread really do turn into blood and flesh if the right ritual is performed
Anyone praying to the Universe/God/whatever they pray to
Anyone praying to whatever they pray to and getting a result
Believing in and working with spirits
Casting spells
Anything supernatural, eg ufos, telekinesis or telepathy, especially if you induce it and/or it teaches you something spiritually
I've tried to put them on a spectrum from least to most supernatural. I'm still not sure I'm making sense but I'm not sure I can explain it any better right now.
Yes, I agree that it's not neccassarily a bad thing to be scatterbrained. I like making comics, which requires a lively imagination, and I suspect that having a lively mind helps that along. The benefits of being irrational are often quite overlooked in western society I think. But I would like to learn to concentrate when I need to, which is something I'm not very good at. Making comics, and other important things in my life, require lots of grunt work, and if I could focus on and concentrate a bit more it would be really helpful. I'm trying to get into mindfulness meditation at the moment.
Re: Hi everyone
hi! [wink] i have to say meditation is key and through which you will learn to alter your consciousness where all the magic happens!
good luck on your magickal journey! [yay] lol
