This is a light-hearted thread in one way, but actually serious in another. I was wondering what everyone though, as Satanists, of the prime-time Geraldo Rivera Satanist special that aired back on Halloween of 1988. This, of course, was the pinnacle of the "Satanic panic", a two hour "expose" with guests including Michael Aquino, Ozzy Osbourne, Zeena and Nikolas Schreck, Charles Manson, and Sean Sellers, while Geraldo himself makes outrageous accusations of child abuse and shadowy conspiracies involving Satanists all the way. I remember this show well...I was 8 years old at the time, and sat behind my mother's chair (I wasn't supposed to be watching it, technically) savoring every word as Geraldo laughably urged "Please, keep your children away from the TV". Years later, I saw it again, not once, but twice, when it was shown in two different high school classes. The distorted picture of Satanism it presented, helped along by Geraldo's shaky statistics and gross exaggerations, was probably very influential on the millions of viewers that tuned in that night; in fact, this show was probably the most influential program of its kind in presenting Satanism to a wide general audience. On the one hand, I almost get a perverse kick out of this show, yet on the other hand, it presents a distorted and exploitive Geraldo-ish portrait of Satanism which is absurd.

The Geraldo show was the first thing I ever saw on Satanism. As inaccurate as it was, it later led me to discover Satanism on my own. It's sweet when Christian propaganda backfires!

You know, I have never seen that episode and I was 18 years old at the time and not interested in religion of any variety. Funny to think that as an adult some 15 years later I came to study, practice and learn with a few of those afforementioned guests of the show that aired that day.

yeah, well we all know how stupid the majority of the population is about satanism, they all think we are apart of some new age one world conspiracy linked with halloween. fuck 'em let em stay that way. Fundamentalism has to die some day, i can hardly fathom what will happen when they all start to clash even worse.

Once it was in a psychology class, and the other time was in a law and justice class, since we were studying "Satanic crimes" (more shams and distortions). I was surprised at how many people in the classes recognized Anton LaVey and were familiar with The Satanic Bible.

As (we) all well know, there will always be a sector of society who desire to exploit another faction of humanity's psyche; government/church state being the main thrust in this. (We) as Satanist's and Luciferian's alike must ride the tides of (their) paranoia and fear, 'fore (they) know they cannot control or manipulate a greater majority of (us); this makes (us) dangerous in (their) eyes; (we) are the unpredictable factor.

To resurrect this topic for a minute, I've been looking for this episode on DVD for my personal archives. If anyone comes across this, would you please post a link here or PM me any info? I'm not looking for bootlegs but if that's all I can find.....

Geraldo's " Satanic" investigations are the same as his "hidden mob vault" investigations---a lot of digging with the end result being nothing.

Christian propaganda, mass media paranoia and terrible 80's fashion, it's everything I hate in life condensed and uploaded in video form :|
Lol, I stopped watching after 5 minutes, couldn't take the absurdity.

There's actually one good thing that I get from this video, and that's realizing that we have possibly made some progress since then...!

Hi
I'm not sure the Youtube version posted above is complete - it has nine parts but there's only six in the Youtube channel.
If it's not, this guy has the whole thing;
