The Book of the Law and the Thoth deck?

Post by Bellandra »

Hi there,

I'm into the tarot but I looked into the book of the Law because a friend recommended the Thoth deck. Its a very mysterious book and I don't know what to make of it yet or how its supposed to help me understand the symbolism of the Thoth deck. Plus I've read that it might not have been dictated by a spirit because of an anagram in the book that says 'aiwass the minister' = 'I sin, I was the master'. Do you think I should stick with it anyway even though it was written by Crowley? What can I really learn about the Thoth deck from this book?

Thanks! [unsure]

Hi! I highly recommend Crowley's Liber 777

and of course "The Book of Thoth - Liber LXXVIII" for deeper understanding of the Thoth Tarot Deck.
"Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?"

Hey Bellandra,
I'm afraid you've got the wrong book! [grin2]

As Ishkira indicated, you want:
"The Book of Thoth,"
By Aleister Crowley,
Published by Weiser Books, USA.
ISBN 0-87728-268-4

Then, there's also:
"Understanding Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot,"
By Lon Milo DuQuette,
Also Pub'd. by Weiser,
ISBN 1-57863-276-5

There's certainly nothing wrong with Liber 777, but it really is about Qabalistic correspondences and so is only actually related to Crowley's Tarot within that context. [geek2]
I haven't read Duquette's work, but I would lay some heavy money on it being waaay more readable than the Crowley.
I hope that helps!
