The price of magic

Post by Santiago »

When we achieve something through magick, will the universe find a way to make us pay for obtaining the desired outcome? I ask this because I was doing lots of sigil rituals on september and on november I got a hemorrhoid. I'm not joking, it sucked. Is there such a thing as an economy of magick or is chaos magick free?

It's a complicated question. I think in some situations, yes, there can be prices or consequences, but I highly doubt there's a connection between a bunch of sigils to help you get stuff and a hemorrhoid a few months later.

'The Path of Illumination'

that gives itself to the chisel-
cut by cut it is honed to perfection"

I think everything comes with a price. It has nothing to do with magic, no matter how you go about getting what you want, you still have to give something up for it. Sometimes it's worth the price and sometimes it's not.

But the price is usually pretty obvious, like when you get the job you desired and you soon find out you don't have time to hang out with your friends anymore, or you get the person you love, but then you find out that you have to make some changes in your behavior in order to make the relationship work. I wouldn't worry about the "hidden cost" of magic.

Magic is not dangerous as long as you use common sense. Too many changes in your life at once, even if they're good ones, will create an imbalance. An imbalance generates stress, as you're trying to adapt to the changes, and stress weakens your body and can generate health problems.

Wow, I am reading a thread on the OF.
Will this continue?
What is the cost to do so?
Do I have the cash?
Is it worth it? Is there a sale?
Maybe I should just finish reading the Book of Job instead...

Edit: Neophyte!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!! Cool...

it only costs you if you think it does.

not everything comes with a price, you see thieves all the time who don't get caught and seem to have amazing luck.

and you're not even stealing, you're earning it through your own energy that YOU put into it.

anyone find that you can doodle up a squiggle on a piece of paper, burn it and get what you want? no. that's because you put energy into it.

your hemorroid or whatever was most likely not caused by your practice of magic. maybe you should do a healing sigil [tongue]

Good answer! [thumbup]
We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of disociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age. ~ H.P. Lovecraft
