Reiki Literature?

Post by curiousone »

G'day people I was just wondering if anyone who has practiced or does practice Reiki could recommend some literature? From what I've read so far it seems to get the most out of it you need to study with a master, but some grounding information as a starting point would be appreciated.
Peace

I'll see if I have a few suggestions once I get home, but the first one that springs to mind is the "Original Reiki Handbook of Mikao Usui" by Frank Arjava Petter, it's a good starting point and covers most of what you need. In my opinion, a lot of reiki development is an internal process that unfolds over time, while a master will be able to help and offer guidance and tips for improvement, make sure you've learned it right, you'll find your most profound insights into it will come from within as time and practice progress. I'm not saying don't, obviously it's kinda required for the attunements, but, just don't slip into thinking the power comes from the master, I had a friend who got into that kind of thinking, he would only accept reiki from one healer, only accept opinions on reiki from that one healer, it was hard watching him get stuck like that, so, that's why I'm making a point of saying it here :P

I may have a few more suggestions but I'll have to check my bookshelf when I get home..

Thanks for that man I'll try to track down a version of that text, also I'm by no means saying a teacher is essential each to their own and all that, just that it was mentioned quite frequently particularly in regards to attunement & opening.
Hope to hear more, Peace

Also on a side note you wouldn't happen to practice this yourself would you? I've been looking into alternative medicine/healing for around a month now due to my lack of success with doctors and members of the psychiatric profession. I've had multiple diagnosis thrown around from major depression to chronic fatigue but in the six years I've been living with this it's only gotten worse. Not sure if a separate thread would be better for this, or if this is even the place to discuss such a personal problem, but to be honest I'm a little desperate...

Sorry for the delay, it turned into a busy week, there is another good book I'd recommend, "Reiki - The healing touch - First and second degree manual" by William Lee Rand, it's fairly comprehensive, the Frank Arjava Petters book is fairly good information, but it's a bit of a short read, the Rand book is a bit more in-depth.

I am master-level attuned but my practice has been a little lacking, I've been focussing on other things a lot recently. I know a fair bit about it, I might be able to help you find some answers :D

I would say start a new thread, if you're comfortable discussing it on the forum, we're always happy to do our best to help. You can PM me any time if you want also. I hope we can help out ^_^

Thanks for taking the time even though you're busy :) I'll see about the thread not sure how good I'd be with that but, in the meantime I'll read that text.
Peace
