Since science has its roots in alchemy and due to the direction quantum physics has taken it, I might wonder if science is itself an experiment started by alchemists to come to global consensus that we live in a consensus reality. I have been wondering about this for awhile and I am not sure exactly how to express my idea so please forgive me if the following sounds a bit confused. If we accept that reality is based on consensus, like a group dream which we are all creating as Hermetic philosophy basically states then could the spread of materialist science be some kind of requirement for an experiment?
By spreading the reality of objectivist materialism in the consensus reality in order it might be possible to find the limits of that created reality and so figure out whatever principles that consensus reality operates under and what the nature of immaterial mind is. Through this scientists could eventually see if there is a reality beyond individual creation until it is undeniable that consciousness creates reality. Due to religious persecution and materialists talent for denial it was impossible to totally and undeniably prove consensus reality by spreading the reality of everyone believing in consensus reality and so alchemists had to prove it by debunking materialism. The only way to totally test the theory of consensus reality, was to do an experiment in an environment which believes in materialist objectivism, with scientists who believe it as well, as it would eventually show what limits their are to that point of view and so point out how consensus reality could be proven undeniably to those who wish to be spiritually ignorant. Thus uniting all minds in consensus by proving the objective reality is one based on consensus, with matter being mind, but since this is a paradox and a contradiction it must be that the mind operates according to certain principles and so then does consensus reality and if we could figure out those principles we would collectively gain maximum ability to manipulate the consensus reality.
Any thoughts on this? I just cant get it out of my head that maybe a purely materialist science was in some way created to perform an alchemical experiment, to in the long run prove the existence of spirituality, maybe even create the philosophers stone for the whole world.

Hello Gunk,
Here is an institute which may be of interest to you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paracelsus_College - http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~panopus/
I think that part of the ambiguity you may have with your speculation is that it is something which cannot be answered. If your initial thesis is of such a nature, all that flows therefrom will be of the same quality. In exploring such issues, it is best to begin with some foundation in an established text. Within Hermetic Philosophy there is plenty that is good and wholesome intellectual food to chew on that will prove to be of more value to you than speculating about covert motives which can never be established.
Speaking specifically, all of those who have, historically and at present, advocate Materialism regard Alchemy as an exercise in psychosis. Also, it takes much more that a general consensus of reality in itself to argue metaphysics. Everyone who argues these issues has always had that consensus that reality exist in itself, they only are arguing over its nature. All of this strikes me as so much entanglement in clouds.
But, if you want the candy of speculating about hidden Hermetic agendas, then you can start here with an actual document: http://books.google.com/books/about/New ... XrK6lXaPYC

Re: Science is an Alchemical experiment
I have posted something very similar to the ideas, you discuss, Gunk Wretch. I think, that deep in the heart of science, there is a spiritual/magical principle, of which most scientists remain unaware.
The development of the Western culture passes through great extremes. During the middle ages, when the religion wielded its power, the ruling philosophical worldviews were the idealism and the metaphysics. I think, that the extreme materialism, atheism, rationalism and realism are just a reaction towards the tyranny of the church, something that was destined to resist the church's sway. Yes, Carl Jung considers the materialistic/atheistic/rationalistic world view as a disease and poison for the soul, but as we know, some poisons are used in the medicine to counter others.
I remember the book of Orwell 1984, where he says, that nether materialism, nor idealism are right and healthy. The materialism would lead to the state of total control and enslavement of the people, just as the religion once did. The truth is in the "integral philosophy", which is neither materialistic, nor idealistic. What is it is still difficult to be explained. The occultism tried to be this integral philosophy, but as it seems, without success. We know, that the occult claim, "everything is energy" is not connected to the physical conceptions. The "energy" of the occultists is not the same as the energy in the physics. Even the torsion field paradigm fails to define with the means of the materialistic science that, what the occultists understand under "energy".
Because occultism is in the middle point, between the idealistic and the materialistic, trying to unify them, experiences hard times to be recognized by the science and religion. Both seek to debunk it, to make it diabolical/corrupt or insanity/ignorance. And alas, it is still helpless, because it has failed till now to define this "whole thing" - which is both material and spiritual and to transcend this duality.
Science is not omnipotent and all-knowing. Despite its claims, it cannot penetrate, study, explain the consciousness. The psychology and the psychoanalysis have grown up on the soil of Cabala(Freudian) and Alchemy and Gnosticism(Jung). All other after Freud and Jung just develop their theories on their basis. And that's why the psychology has been criticized and even rejected as pseudo-science. Despite, that the occult/spiritual phenomena were rejected by the psychiatry, it is considered and criticized as pseudo-science by many too. There exists the anti-psychiatry movement, according to which, the psychiatry is just the Inquisition/the Holy Office of the science...which seems in many ways to turn to that, what it fought once.
Maybe we will be a witness to the day, when the conflict between the religion and the science will reach this climax and both may die/annihilate themselves.Yes, because they cannot find piece with each other, no matter the attempts to do so.But actually, their annihilation or unification is a kind of an alchemical synthesis. Maybe then we will realize the nature of that, what occultism calls "energy" and let's hope, that this will be the birth of the philosopher's stone.
