Question about lunar magic

Post by Romez »

Hello,
Recently I have been fascinated with lunar magic and I was wondering are there any texts or books that would be recommended to read on it. I did some searching online and it always seems to be brought back to wicca. I was wondering is that the only path that uses lunar magic or is there something else that uses it or maybe lunar magic stands by itself as a form of magic?
Thank you very much for your time

I did some searching to try and help answer the question (and learn as well), but as you have said it all comes up with Wiccan information. No offense to the path but it is certainly not for me. So, perhaps it would be beneficial to study the science of moon cycles? If the moon can truly affect magick then studying the science of the cycles can only be beneficial. There are many theories out there concerning moon cycles, I've talked to many reasonable people who buy into the whole full moon thing, especially police officers. So, that might be the place to turn to without Wiccan bias.

Always an awesome site:

You could always get started with Agrippa:

The Western Mystery Tradition is full of Planetary magicks, methodologies and significances. It's not all Wicca by a long chalk,Wicca is a modern religion and Lunary magicks go much further back in time, much, much further, actually.

Romez, can you explain exactly "what" fascinates you about Lunar Magic? If you can be more specific, whether it is using it with spell work, in divination, ritual, or ceremonial?

I think I may be able to help you. [grin] (and no, I am NOT Wiccan. [wink] )

The only thing I can add to this is this: If you see any source linking lunar magick to Druidism or Celtic magick, you should cast a very wary eye on it, as 99.9% will be complete silliness.

I´m not sure if this will help, in Taoism you can take energy from the Moon (among other things). Also, in Classical Greece in Tesalia witches were said to be able to make the Moon go down.

That is the most sensible statement in this Thread so far.

There's also this:
"Liber Lunae or the Book of the Moon & Sepher ha-Levanah Sourceworks of Ceremonial Magic,"
KARR, Don (Editor), Calanit Nachshon (Translator), with an Introduction by Stephen Skinner.
Golden Hoard Press, 2011.

Liber Lunae & Sepher ha-Levanah offers access to two rare esoteric texts on Moon magic. Liber Lunae has been transcribed from a sixteenth century English manuscript, annotated, and supplemented with modernized English.

edit: oops, wrong button [whiskey]... I found this at Weiser Antiquarian Books, for sale as a Limited Edition. However, these Golden Hoard guys always put out a less expensive variety that you could likely lay hands on. [geek2]
