Unknown Symbol?

Post by Daeamor »

Hello all, I was out hiking one day when I saw a strange symbol carved into a cliff wall with the message "The end is nigh...." My first thought was BS. But the symbol was something that caught my eye, however I have no idea what it is from. So if anyone knows could ya tell me?

It is not a sigil for a demon from the Goetia and I don't think it is Planetary, either. There's an off chance it could be from one of these fake black magic tomes or it had some ritual use from people who did not know what they were doing, but, probability is that it is simply graffiti.

To me it looks like a selfmade sigil, considering this wannabebad prophecy it could be a club symbol... or a joke like so many other symbols and graffities.
bye bye

Oh, hell - it could be a gang symbol for all we know or even a coven symbol.

Making general assumptions in the absence of data is something one might want to avoid. History is full of examples of great suffering resulting from such laizze-Faire cognition. I don't mean this as any criticism. It just seems appropriate to remind all of us not to take things too lightly. Regarding the symbol, given the Hebrew appearance one may want to bring it to a Kabbalist. The colors may also reflect those of the phases of Taoist alchemy. This may be followed up by visiting a Buddhist temple and inquiring there. Share with us if you get any leads.

Hello Manonthepath,

The image of this carving is all the data we have and all we have to work with. I know Hebrew and have demonstrated that elsewhere on the Forum. This sigil is not Hebrew. If you think it is, please show us how you reached that conclusion. Further, you made reference to the “color,” but this was carved and there were no descriptions of color associated with it. This makes your references to Taoist alchemy and Buddhism mute. I searched through the Goetia and through a collection of Planetary sigils and did not find anything resembling the picture. My opinions here may be in error, and I said as much on this thread, but are in no way “general assumptions” spawned from “laizze-faire cognition.”

Your character is not at issue and pointless debate is just that; pointless. I wish you joy and growth.

You insult first and then dive under water when an answer comes. That is unpolite, to say the least. [clown]

Perhaps those offended by my words may want to meditate on the content without emotion. Emotional debating is juvenile and undignified. To engage in such is the epitome of rudeness. The world is full of spite and anger. Allow yours to flow away and embrace the joy in your lives. I wish everyone reading this joy and growth.

Emotions are one of the roots of magickal practice and should not be so easily cast aside.

As for the symbol, it looks to me like a sigil though I don't know it's meaning. Perhaps you could give us more information? Did it look like the symbol and the message were made at the same time? If they were made by different people or at different times they may be completely unrelated.

My first gut feeling was vampire.

My second thought is that it is a graffiti tag.

That's probably because the shape is somewhat reminiscent of teeth. I doubt it has anything to do with vampires, but with so little information it's hard to rule anything out completely. Ditto with the graffiti theory.

Taken on its own merit, its an interesting sigillic design and it might be better trying to analyse it for what it is than trying to identify it with an existing sigil.

Looks similar to an anglo saxon rune to me. I seem to remember that some people make sigils by combining runes? Possibly this is something like that? If that is the case only the author would know what its purpose meant... I am inclined to agree with Asurendra and Ramscha... Possibly pulled out of a fake grimoire or just intended to be a bit scary. If, as has been suggested, it is associated with some club or group, it might have been put there to scare people off from discovering their 'den'?
