I wasn't sure where on the forum to pose this question but this will hopefully be sufficient. A short background: A little over 23 years ago, my dad died from a gunshot wound. The official story was suicide but he was in debt to bookies from gambling so suicide or murder are both equally likely possibilities. My question is, is it possible to speak with someone who has been dead for 20+ years and does the method of death factor into this possibility? I am not looking to ask him about the future, since the dead couldn't know that much about that. I would simply like to know more of the specifics about what actually happened to him. And before anyone asks, I'm not seeking revenge if it was murder, I just want a little more closure.
I have only been studying occulted knowledge for a few years now although I dabbled a bit when I was a teenager. Any thoughts or information on this would be appreciated.
Thanks for reading!

That would depend on where your father's spirit has moved onto. If he's reincarnated already, then you're out of luck. On the flip side, if he's still dwelling on a higher plane, he could be contactable, but this isn't likely unless your father was a spiritually advanced individual, especially after 23 years.
I'd say divination, or evoking another spirit to provide the information, would be a more fruitful path.
However, for what it's worth, and I'm sorry to say it, but it just sounds like a regular suicide to me. Even the worst of loan sharks don't generally kill their victims - after all, the dead can't pay the money back, which defies the entire purpose of the thing. I know it's hard to come to terms with the idea that someone you love killed themselves, but it's hard for the police to mistake a murder for a suicide, especially when it's via. gunshot.

Re: Speaking to the dead after 20+ years?
I appreciate the reply. There were other factors suggesting murder, like the fact that my step-mom received a substantial amount of money from his pension and her lover moved in with her about 2 weeks after he died. But to be honest, I forgave her years ago and I don’t harbor any negative feelings about the situation because that kind of negativity can really destroy the spirit. And I have accepted the fact that it was most likely suicide because of the gambling debt and the fact that his wife was cheating on him with his own friend. The cops blamed Vietnam and maybe that was a minor contributing factor as well. I really would just like to know for sure out of curiosity.
Personally I hope that he has moved on and I doubt that it was to a higher plane. He never seemed very spiritual to me. He was more wrapped up in the carnal world than anything spiritual, mainly out of rebellion from his severe Baptist fundamentalist parents.
Contacting another spirit is a good idea. I will definitely put some thought into that. Thanks for your suggestions and for your very tactful honesty.

Have you considered going to a reputable medium and asking?

I have considered it, but I'm not sure where to find a "reputable" medium in my area. There are way too many charlatans around who tell people what they think they want to hear in order to make a few bucks. I'm not sure how to vet a Medium.

Why are you asking these questions after 20 years? Have they always been with you or have they rescently resurfaced?
Even if your fathers soul has moved on (who knows the timetable of Spirit, not me) his shade may still be contactable by medium for specific information. Expect confusion as the shade may have disintegrated greatly,... unless you have been feeding it.

The questions have always been with me. It is more just curiosity really. It wouldn't really change my feelings about anything.
Thanks for all the replys.
