IP ADDRESSES AND TROLLS

I would like to take this opportunity to inform members about an issue which occurs from time to time.

When you sign up for an account here there are rules for posting, which are non negotiable.

You agree to the terms and conditions of the site upon sign up.

This is also non negotiable.

When we discover a member has no defined IP address,as can happen when trolls or spammers show up, we will ban that member,permanently and irrevocably, that is if they haven't already bought themselves a ban by their behaviour.

It seems timely to reiterate these points again in light of recent activity.

Is this to say I have the possibility of ban if my proxy does not have a single, specific exit port?

Probably not.

I should have written the above post much more clearly. I was irritated by spammers at the time. [eek]

It would count against you if you came to my attention for infractible offences, like flaming or spamming, for example.

We understand that some members use proxies for security reasons and most of the time that's fine.

Oh, okay. Thank you for your clarification on the matter.
As a side note, it may seem like I'm spamming with how much I've been posting, but the truth is I simply have nothing better to do with my time.
I try to only post on topics that are unanswered, that I feel confident I can answer.
I noticed my name was the recent poster on over half of the active topics though, and I just wish to inform you and anyone else who has the authority to decide, that my intent isn't spam, but general interest in the community here.
I apologize if it seems like the former.

I think you are doing fine, your posts are relevant to where they are and what topics they are posted in, so no worries so far. [thumbup]

There is no limit on how often you can post, within reason. [grin]

I know how annoying this can be, I have tried opening my own forums, two in total, but oh my god, what a bore it is to take the time each day to eradicate the Indian Ad-Sense and general get rich quick suckers from a forum once they have discovered your forum. It was because of this that I closed them down, or simply used the flow of the traffic to divert users to other sites that i own, but Google analytics soon clarified that the forum was being flooded by bots and although it looked like I was getting 100,000's of hits a day, the hits never translated into the divert traffic on the other sites, so I closed the forums down.

Apart from the manual ball ache, are there other applications that can prevent, or at least minimize these bot attacks, some app that can be uploaded with the php files in the forum folder and operated through the control panel?

I never understood why people flood forums with bots..
I could see in a video game how that could be beneficial to the user, but doing it on a forum is just being a dick for the sake of being a dick.
