The key of Solomon the King?

Post by Tris3021 »

Anyone ever done work with the grimoire called The Key of Solomon the King? I''ve recently been looking at it myself, I'm just wondering if anybody could share their own experiences working with this book.. I certainly do believe it works or CAN work (strict belief is a requirement in Magickal practice and apparently I heard even some have made spells that were complete bogus actually work if they believed hard enough), although I am open to the fact that as long as this grimoire has been around, it probably most certainly could have been changed over time, you know, like the game telephone we used to play as kids :P I can definitely say that I'm not ready for this kind of Magickal work yet... I need to work on meditating and getting clairvoyance and clairaudience first and whatnot.. What would be worse than using this kind of grimoire to conjure up demons or something, you think nothing is there or feel nothing is there, but there actually IS something there? I'd rather avoid that kind of situation, we must be responsible when it comes to anything, especially magick in my opinion.

A your thoughts and opinions, no matter how different of view, are greatly appreciated! I'm very open and love to have great discussions without judging others for what they hold to be true

If you are going to work with it, make sure you get the latest translation.
And read all of it.

Most of the book is the Goetic instructions minus the list of demons -- in fact some editions of the Goetia forget to add the Key of Solomon material yet seem to assume you know it (instructions for purifications and conserations and the actual conjurations.)

At this time the only part of the book I have first hand experience with is the consecration of the salt and the ritual bath. In all honesty I found it cumbersome and not more effective than other, simpler methods.

The most current version of the so-called KEY OF SOLOMON ( at least that I am aware of ) was last edited and published by S. L McGregor Mathers, 32nd degree Scottish Rite, Supreme Magus of the SRIA, and one of the founding Triumvirate of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. He was a fairly accomplished scholar of Western Esotericism, and IF his wife, Moina Mathers, who was a Jewess and sister to well-known philosopher Henri Bergson, helped Mathers correct the garbled Hebrew in many older copies of the KEY of SOLOMON the KING, then his version may be a reliable type of Western Ceremonial MAGIA.

I would NOT advise anyone, ever, to practise MAGIA, without very strict preliminary preparations in the ARTand SCIENCE of MAGIA. Also, be very careful as to whom you might apprentice yourself to, as there are very many PRETENDERS to the ART, outright CHARLATANS, and quite a few loony-toons out there in the occult community also.
