How local folk deals with ghosts

Post by Matrozs »

Good night to you all , I decided to share some local traditional knowledge about dealing with ''ujra járó'' , literally (he) who walks again.
--------------------------------------
Please keep in mind that this is no more than local lore , it doesn't have much magick to it. It may sound absurd.
-------------------------------------
Here in Transilvanya, the concept of a ghost is a little different than in the west. We call it ''ujra járó'' in hungarian or more mainstream is ''szellem'' , literally ghost ( more of the western type, what you see in the movies ) , in german we call it ''Schatt(en)'' { due to the local dialect} , literally shadow (man)the romanians who live here call it ''strigoi'' .

The ''ujra járó'' bears a striking resemblance to the well known entity from Old Norse sagas , the ''draugr'' (maybe because the colonisation of german populations here , but I can't tell for certain) and it's activity is simillar to that of a poltergeist ( that's in german too [eg] ).
Short description:
Variants differ from village to village but generally it's like this:
When somebody was a really bad person during his life and dies ( gets a funeral and stuff like that), he won't be able to leave this world (or doesn't whant to ) , since he has nothing better to do he goes to his living familly members , throws objects around , makes the animals mad , howls loud , and you can't see him ( there are exceptions).
It is known that the poltergeist is bind to his dead body , so if you open his coffin the night you know he's fooling around , the corpse would either be missing or would be facing inward. Done , ujra jaro confirmed.

Now , come the dawn , men from the village ( around 5-20) would go to the poor dead guy ( torches are optional), open up his coffin again , cut out the corpses hearth !, boil it there in the cemetery ,and the man closest to the one affected will need to eat it . After the breakfast , the corpse will either be impaled/nailed to the coffin , or it's feet will be tied tight with hemp rope. ( so he won't be able to walk again).
The activity will cease after this , or after the body rotted away.
Yes , there are many corpse insulting cases in the court around here .
There are other ways , but this works 100% , I guarantee you , granted only if it was your family member.

Interesting, thanks for the share.
You seem pretty confident with the rate of success, did you have to eat the heart of one of your haunting relative?

Locals here have an unique way of dealing with the paranormal - fainting.
I listen to a weekly midnight radio show on ghost stories every now and then, and the people telling their "experiences" always have fainting in their story at some point or another. Sees ghost - faints. Runs away from ghost and faints some distance away. Etc, etc. It's rather funny actually.
on hiatus. contact via elsewhere.

Guarantees are funny things, aren't they? This is a way to curse yourself. Don't ever try it. To eat the heart of an enemy is to take on aspects of that being into yourself. At least this is the way the vast majority of paths see it. There are health issues involved as well. I hope nobody reads this and is stupid enough to ever attempt it.

Well... no , but these cases are so regular here , only in december , there were like 3-4 cases , It happens more during autumn/winter times it seems.
The basic concept here is that for some reason the ''spirit'' still maintains a bond with it's physical body , so if you destroy it or nail it good to the earth , it should't move , and activity seems to stop once you immobilise the corpse. I said 100% since nobody brags about it after the deed , and sometimes the victims don't even know there uncle is served as breakfast.

That works too , I suppose ! Only if the show is legit [wink]

Oh shit , I never thought that some people may try it . There are some elder people( 70-80yrs) around here who have done it dozens of times ... but still , Medicaly speaking if you raise the meat to a high temperature , the bacterias will mostly die , and people here think that if you eat your familly members corpse , you won't have problems , since its same blood and all. ( NOT SAYING THAT ANYBODY SHOULD GET CANIBALL!!)
Again , people should not try this , here it's okay , since this stuff has been around for hundreds of years but...
