New here and looking to see if anyone knows what this is?

Post by 60mm »

Hi, I found this wooden arangement hanging in a old barn behind my house.
The barn is really old, I would say 20's or 30's but theres no record of its actual age.
Theres a 2"x6" connecting 2 rafters with 2 single nails holding it up, so it was obviously put there with the sole purpose of hanging this. The formation or arangement is nailed to the board and just hangs there centered to the room and is about a foot away from the north east wall. This thing was without a doubt put there at some point in time for a reason.

It was dark in there and i was using my camera on my phone so i tried to lighten the pic so you can see it better.
Thanks in advance for any insight to what this might be.

Looks like The Three Stooges dropped by and tired to build a ladder maybe?

Fereal though - have no clue. Kinda looks like the Hebrew letter shin. Pretty weird, but doesn't seem like it's any kind of hex or fetish or anything like that. I get the feeling it was improvised to serve some practical function, maybe. I'm stumped.

Thanks for the reply, im pretty sure the stoogies wern't here lol. I can tell you i've lived here for about a year and this place has always felt kind of creepy, you never really feel alone if that makes any sense. As for whatever this thing may be idk? But Its really not big,its about 2'x2' and the way its up there i could see no practical use for it, its deffinitly not load bearing, if you hung anything on it, it would fall down. I've tried multiple reverse image searches and have found nothing, so i figured i'd try a board like this.

It's the backside of a horsedriven weed whacker. The wheel is missing and they probably hung it up because it would be cheaper to buy a new one made from metal then to repair an old wooden one.

And that would explain why I've come across quite a few of those in barns out in the country - especially, the really old farms that haven't cleaned the older stuff out yet.
When my wings get tired I grab my broom.

Most likely a support for something long gone.
