Meditation

Post by unkn0wn »

I've been meditating for a while now, and just recently within the last month have discovered how I can get into a deep state of meditation. As of last night while laying down, I decided to see how far I could go. Once I got into this deep state, a bright light came almost like the sun. My heart started racing. It freaked me out and I had to snap out of it. I then thought it over for a while and decided to try it again to see if I can let go and see where it takes me. I get back into this state. The bright light comes, but it's like my eyes are open, although they aren't? Heart starts racing again. I tried to last in this state as long as I could, but I keep freaking out thinking I'm going to have a heart attack, so I snap out of it. When I do, although my eyes seem to be open, I have to open them physically. My body feels like a huge vibration while all this is happening. I want to see where it takes me, but not sure how to go about calming myself. Any suggestions on this?

Congratulations unkn0wn :)

I'm unfamiliar with the experience but I bet with continual, short exposures to this state, you'll be able to last in it for longer periods of time.

Calming the self during experience while in meditation takes practice.
Free yourself from the seduction of words.

On of the ways to explain your experience is that you are seeing the light of your third eye. Another would be to say that it is the light of the universe. I know some people describe it as the middle pillar.
What ever it is, it's pretty normal.
It happens to me when I do qigong and I see it as a good sign that I'm starting to relax.

See if you can "place" the light between your eyes, if it bothers your normal eyes.
You can also try to fell the warmness, It should be like standing in the sun, even with your eyes closed you can still "see" and feel the light.

Of course it will startle you the first time it happens.
I remember the first time I lost the room. All the suddenly I couldn't feel the floor, or really anything. It was like being in a giant black nothing.
I was so startled that I completely lost focus and couldn't meditate properly for days.

When you meditate your minds can do all sorts of crazy stuff. Old memories can pop up, strong emotions that you might have tried to suppress, or emotions you never even had. You might experience all sorts of "attacks" on the senses: Strong light, strong smell, itching in your fingers, numbness. Sleepiness or surges of strong energy.

The trick is to experience them and then move on.
There is nothing to be afraid of and since it's all coming from you, you are more then capable of dealing with it.
Just try and refocus on your breathing, counting or what ever exercise you where doing before it happened, and if it happens again, just let it happen.
Just like stepping in the shower. the first time the water hits you, you'll notice it, but then after a while you're not even thinking about it, You're just taking a shower.

Do the same with the light. Explore it for a while and then just leave it alone, just let it be.

Your meditation technique could be leading you there.

What are your thoughts and experiences during meditation that leads to the intense light/vibration?

Okay I finally was able to calm myself after these last few days. I got back into the state and overcame the light. My thoughts at that point was a desire for spiritual progress. I was calm, relaxed, breathing heavily and slowly. I could still feel my heart beat, but it wasn't racing. At the moment of overcoming the light, my eye lids seemed to have a seizure (I don't know how else to explain this) I think it was REM sleep. The bright light then slowly moved to the back of my eyes from the top. Then my eyes were opened again, almost forcefully. I just layed there still focusing my breathing and staying calm. I stayed in this state for a small amount of time, and then snapped out of it.

After doing some research, it almost sounds like I may be on the verge of an out-of-body experience. (Would be cool) If so, I have no idea how to progress from here. Going to continue this and see what happens.

Also, this is only while laying down. I never get this effect while in my normal meditative state of sitting.

Just keep at it.
The more you do it, the more relaxed you will be about it.
