Essence of magick
Essence of magick
Ok, I was just wondering if you are able to give me three books that have it all for full training in magick? If there's one book that's even better. I like the cartoon version of chaos magick introduction - it's simple, straight to the point and all you have to do is apply it.

Question 1: Which Magick?
Because Voodoo is not Witchcraft is not Hermetics is not Onmyoudo, you see.

Re: Essence of magick
I posted in "chaos magick" forum. Basically I would like to learn something useful before dropping the magick altogether in pursuit of mysticism. Sigils seem interesting. They are simple, freestyle spells with basically infinite application. The rules to follow are simple, the technique interesting and people promise good results.
Re: Essence of magick
Chaos Magick is a meta-paradigm that lets you study any paradigm that you want, so it's necessary to specify in threads like this exactly what it is that you do want.
For Sigil Magick, I recommend this as a good place to start. If you just want to spend money on a book, Practical Sigil Magic by Frater U∴D∴ is a well known resource. And...Carroll's book I think? But I can't remember which one off the top of my head.

Re: Essence of magick
I would prefer something post-modern, free-form, practical, relatively simple, directed at solitary user something like sigils. Or a general book about chaos magick. An expanded Liber MMM I would consider a paragon example what I'm looking for.
Re: Essence of magick
Don't think that exists. For all it's "openness" chaos magic is really pretty basic. It's more a collection of a few new techniques and new takes on a few old techniques combined with the whole meta-paradigm concept and wrapped up in a certain aesthetic than it is an actual system of magical development. Sorry man.

Re: Essence of magick
I would recommend Hands On Chaos Magic by Andrieh Vitimus for a fairly comprehensive book on chaos magic
Re: Essence of magick
Advanced Magick for Beginners by Alan Chapman may be exactly what you are looking for.

Why not just start with mysticism? I've learned more about practical magick through mystical insight then by reading any book.Petrichor wrote:Basically I would like to learn something useful before dropping the magick altogether in pursuit of mysticism.

Re: Essence of magick
For chaos magicians I think Liber Null & Psychonaut (by Carroll, perhaps the one Shin was referring to) is very solid and comprehensive. If you're doing the whole "pick a paradigm and dive in" thing, you'd need to specify which paradigm.

Re: Essence of magick
I don't think it's even possible to empty the whole idea of Chaos to one certain book, cause it's so highly individualistic path. Carroll's book was a great catalog of certain views, ideas and closing points, but I don't think it's intention was to be any "Satanic bible of Chaos magic", which would line you certain dogma or ritual as a format.
If you want to do experiments with paradigm, one great way is to study that certain tradition straight by studying main books and teachings of that certain tradition. From those teachings you will find what you need to success with that certain paradigm.

Re: Essence of magick
I would recommend starting with sigil magick, too.
A good resource is this: https://www.scribd.com/doc/261643751/Li ... -of-Sigils
