Numinous Altars?

Post by Haelos »

My altar in the past has always been very.. Practical-oriented. I've always gotten a lot of use out of it.

I recently set up a specific altar to honor and work with two Gods in particular (they play nice with each other.) It isn't used for much of anything.
I burn an incense stick and a candle daily, which has stained the room with a pleasant smell. I also leave a small dish of whiskey for the Gods to share as they play their board games, or whatever it is Gods do. From my personal stock.
I've also started using the room as my workout area, dedicating a small amount of my time almost each day to get my body into shape. I think that's helped the air of the room out as well.

I'm not really sure what I'm "supposed to do" now, though. I've impregnated the room and the altar itself with light of a color corresponding to the deities I'm honoring. But beyond that, I'm not really sure how I'm supposed to use the energy they provide me, nor do I know where to go from here.

Really, my question with this thread is "How do I use an altar dedicated to a specific God?"
Yeah, that sounds right. ^That.

I figured out how to set it up; I've added my personal touches to it. Now I'm just to the point of questioning why it is I did this in the first place..

I know this may seem like a kind of dumb question. But really, why is it we set thee altars up in the first place? Seems kind of redundant when you could just invoke the energy of the Gods you wish to work with.
I don't know, I guess I've just learned so much I need to step back and really apply some of the pettier things I skimmed over in the past.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

pray to it
like.. a bit of demonolatry but hopefully without the "worship" part because that's a little obsessive

You mean.. Pray at it?
The altar itself doesn't do anything. It's just a table with some fancy stuff on it. Not even that great of a table. It used to be a lamp.

I do, I guess, worship these Gods. In a way. I just don't blindly follow them.

I'm not sure what you mean when you use demonalatry in this context. As I know it, that's simply a way of saying you summon demons in preference to other types of entities (ghosts, Gods, etc.). Perhaps I also thought it was a specific way you dealt with these entities. I'm not sure.
