Make the Sceptics Convince Themselves -- Project

Post by Moon1ight »

Hi everyone,

many of us probably agree that it would be good if more people used Magick. However, we are probably also rather tired of trying to convince those sceptics. This project is not about that. Rather, let's make them convince themselves (if this text seems to long to read, jump down to Tl;Dr ;) )

My idea is simple -- I want to create a free and public guide which gives a few (2-3) methods to try out. These should be simple and accessible, obviously. They do not have to cause massive effects -- their only purpose it to ensure that an open-minded person who honestly tries them will realise that magic is in fact real, that there is something here worth trying.

[Is this the correct place to put this? Should it be moved to Chaos Magic? Or somewhere else?]

I already have a lot of this thought out and would do it on my own (as good as I can), if I need to. However, I really want to ask for your input (obviously I will give credit if you wish). As for distribution, I think I will create a few printed versions and put them in some interesting places. But mainly I will create a public document e.g. in Scribd and spread the link to that. I'll print stickers and cards with it combined with interesting phrases etc. -- all the usual glitterbombing methods.

I want to make this as short as possible, since people are averse to long texts. I'd just write a short opening paragraph (see next post for an idea) and then directly give the methods. After each I would include links to further reading, to free books and essays mainly (I think it might be best to avoid all metaphysics -- no mention of khaos, of quantum mechanics, of psychology. I really want to make it short and purely practical. If they have success with that, they will get into the theory themselves, I would include a few links of that nature).

Of course I have some ideas for this already, which I will outline in the next post to make it less wall-of-text-y :D

So, which methods you would suggest.to include in this? See the Tl;Dr for my questions to you :) See the next post for my very preliminary ideas.

Tl;Dr If you had an open-minded sceptic about magick, which methods would you suggest him to try? Which "instructions" would you give him, which texts would you send? What are the shortest paths to the conclusion that magick is real?

Khaos provides.

So here are some ideas I already have, which I will edit with time. I'm very open to suggestions and corrections to all of these, especially since English is my third language.

Tl;Dr If you want, you can totally ignore this post and just directly give your own ideas, as asked in the last Tl;Dr :)

Firstly, the opening paragraph. I want to make it short and non-metaphysical. It's supposed to appeal to curiosity and the sceptic's pride of being an independent thinker (whether this pride is justified or not is another matter ;) ). This is a first draft. What do you think of it? You can of course also suggest a totally different approach.
________
Is magic real? Find out for yourself!
Some people talk about magic(k) as another means to fulfil one's aims, but most folks are sure that there is no such thing in reality. However, open-minded thinkers draw their own conclusions! Here are some time-proven methods you can personally try out to establish for yourself whether there is anything to this. They won't take ages, won't cost money and won't ask you to do anything stupid.

Do these and see -- if it works, there are many free resources to get deeper into it and start making your live great for real. If it doesn't, now you know for yourself and don't have to rely on someone's word.
________

Now the methods themselves. I would like to include short guides to 1. Sigils, 2. Law of Attraction-style work and (maybe!) 3. Telepathy.

This is the part where I am the most looking for suggestions. You have other methods which you find better suited? Post them please! You have specific tips or texts for the methods I mentioned? Please post them too!

So, here are my preliminary ideas so far. I will elaborate on them in the next days:

1. Sigils
For this my main source will probably be "Practical Sigil Magic" by Frater U.D. ( http://homepage.ntlworld.com/wisewoman/ ... nglish.pdf ), from which I would condense the material about the usual pictorial methods.
This is of course the archetypal method of achieving quick results. However, I personally had no really good success with it, contrary to my law of attraction-work. I want to include it anyway, since quite many people are reporting great results with it, it seems good to describe in short form and is quick to put in practice

2. Law of Attraction-style work
For this I will mainly take stuff from R.H. Jarrett's "It Works" (1926)

and Genevieve Behrend's "Your Invisible Power" (1921)
( http://www.missionimprovement1.com/uplo ... wer[1].pdf )

I will omit the metaphysical assumptions as far as possible and just present the mental actions.
This is the part of magic I have the most experiences and successes with.

(Maybe) 3. Telepathy
Here I am the least sure.... My main infos are from https://web.archive.org/web/20110928081 ... icles.html -- mainly these two articles https://web.archive.org/web/20111006061 ... pathy.html
https://web.archive.org/web/20111006045 ... fruit.html
I have only very little experience with this material myself :( But the texts seem easy enough to turn into a suitable format. I plan to learn about this in practice in March. Maybe then I will be clearer on it. But I'm also very eager to hear about your experiences and thoughts.

I was a skeptic until I started practicing the sorts of things Abraham-Hicks preached. A hat I had wanted and thought about appeared in a museum the day I gave up on it. Since then, I have managed to make enough peculiar things happen through my intention that I have noticed what is going on. It is still hard to fully believe that I am behind these serendipitous events but sometimes they are so strange that it is hard to miss, until I overwrite the event with cognitive bias anyway. (I still have a hard time accepting all this is real.)

I recommend making people write down serendipitous events that line up with what they want. It is easy to forget what you wanted and that you were part of the result. I also recommend using scientific principles to convince them to try it out...I'm currently working on a friend who is accidentally conjuring sightings of a certain kind of car every time he needs some good luck or his day is going in the right direction. I had told him, simply, that I always look for that kind of car and I see one almost every day, and I've decided to give myself the psychological belief that seeing one means I am lucky and my life is going in the right direction. This way my typically negative thought processes are turned around. He has caught on and is fascinated with how often they appear. He does not yet know that he is priming himself to look for them, and on top of that, is bringing them to himself through his intention and excitement.

Basically, even if magick (esp. visualization, application of willpower) is merely the creation of a subconscious push towards things you'd like, it's still a useful tool to master oneself and manipulate one's life. Presenting techniques in this way can convert many people to practicing without realizing exactly what they are doing, and soon enough they will figure it out if it is right for them to do so.

I'm not sure why would I want that. Using magick doesn't make someone immediately a better person.
