I've been doing awareness meditations (30 minutes each morning and night). I sit down, close my eyes, and then try to observe my thoughts without influencing them or getting "absorbed" in them. Whenever I open my eyes after my practice, I get a little disoriented, but not really in a dizzy sense. It's like I can see everything around me but it's really granular and kind of foggy like I'm dreaming.
From my perspective, when I meditate, I'm opening up blockades and letting my mind cleanse itself. When I meditate, I get disoriented, and then when I stabilise my focus it's almost like my vision has widened. It's like weightlifting I suppose.
However, lately I've been having difficulty refocusing after some meditations, and it's almost like I'm constantly in a crowd of people that all want to grab my attention. I can normally tough it out and just pull myself back into the present moment with a quick mental statement of "I'm right here, right now", but every once in a while it's like I've opened too many mental barricades, and I really struggle to not get overwhelmed.
I've tried grounding by eating, but that also doesn't seem to do anything, and I've also tried the grounding like a tree method. Maybe I'm just not putting enough effort into grounding.
Is this normal? How do you folks refocus when you're being swamped like this? Help would be much appreciated.

Have you tried putting up a psychic shield?

Re: Difficulty focusing after meditation
Never even thought of psionics. I was honestly thinking more on the line of rituals that I could use (I currently use the LBRP but I haven't used it enough for it to really be that useful), but a shield would probably work. Thanks.

Motumbá
To the OP. Sprinkle your face with cold water. Touch your fingers, massage your hands one with the other. Massage your arms. That brings you to "now". Massage your feet, the plant of yor feet. Do some sit ups, jump a little (low hight). That activates you root/basic chakra and roots you. Dob't keep the "relaxed" breathing after meditating. Breathe by the right nosetrail covering the left one, do it profound and not so slow, three times. That activates "raja" energy.

Re: Difficulty focusing after meditation
Thanks. That list of stuff is pretty effective. Regarding the breathing though, does it matter which nostril is covered, or how many times I breathe in? Or is it just a method to make more air pressure and the left/right nostril arbitrary? I'm curious as to what the occult anatomy (if any) is.

It's Pranayama.
You breathe actively with the right nostril for fire breathing. Breathe slowly with the left for cool meditative state.
