Longer edit button time
Can we please have a longer period of time to edit our own posts. I hate when I do simple spelling errors or want to add something to a post only to find out that I can't edit it.

Re: Longer edit button time
We tried a longer window and the facility was soundly abused when we did.
Previously moderated posts got changed to make the moderation look out of synch and over the top and there were members changing their content after the fact also, to make justified criticism by other members in their topic look equally daft, so we won't be making that mistake again any time soon.
Any post edits needed can be referred to staff who will be more than happy to correct or delete erroneous content for you.
However, it's a really good idea to use the draft facility here, as there is a 'save ' option, next to the submit button which will allow you to edit again later, before finally submitting a post.
In the User Control Panel there is a manage draft section, where you can see, add to or delete and edit your post, before loading it to the topic concerned, once happy with the content.
I just tested the facility using this post, so it's all good to go.

Re: Longer edit button time
It feels a bit weird to ask a mod for a spelling error. I'm sure they have something better to do.
But okay, request denied.

Re: Longer edit button time
First up I'm writing up a doc to explain and outline using the save/ draft feature. It will be in easy to understand form, as I am not that technically minded myself and I like simple explanations.
Secondly: we are willing to consider expanding the edit window a little, but if we do it will be on a strictly experimental/ temporary basis for now. Any abuses and we'll go back to the previous narrow time frame.
We do understand that most members will use a wider window quite well, without any bother, so it is unfair on these folk to have to deal with the results of actions caused by egoists who didn't comply with site rules.
I'll need to discuss this with other staff, though, so bear with us a little longer in the interim.
