I've been on forums with "likes" before....i found it encouraged me to be more careful with my words and raised the quality of my posts. Furthermore, i found it gave me good feedback and let me know when what i posted hit the mark or was just plane jane. I"d be down for a "Mana" system. I think it would be a fun dynamic for the site.

The only thing "Like buttons" do is promote hubris in forum users. I'm not fan of them. People's lives start circling around a single number on a forum post. Kind of like a highscore, except in the end it's meaningless. People start focusing on the wrong things.
