I'm pissed off

I went to see a psychic about a month or so ago. I'm quite into the old divinition thing, and have my crystals and my tarot cards.

He was the biggest pile of sh*#e I've ever heard.

He told me he saw a man with a pipe watching me. I was like, yeah might be my grandad.

Then he took this, told me he saw my nan standing next to him.

I came out and told my dad this, and my dad was like "your grandad didn't smoke a pipe".

That psychic just made RANDOM GUESSES based on sterotypes in order to come up with things which could have upset me quite considerably?

I'm annoyed, it's "psychics" like him who let the side down!

It's an old trick that one - a "psychic" makes vague guesses about you, judging by your appearance, and it's no surprise that it happens to fit your experience. An old man appears - it must be your grandad! I'm guessing the psychic was taking a risk with the pipe.

This is why I don't pay to visit psychics and fortune tellers. I just do it myself, and for others occasionally.

He also said he heard the word "sewing" when he saw my grandma.. I caught that straight away because my gran couldn't sew!

Neither can I for that matter.

There are many tricks charlatans use in this regard... making very vague comments and watching for "tells" from the client for hints as to how to proceed. This individual sounds not only like a charlatan but a poor one at that... sadly there will always be willing suckers and people who will prey on them. The important thing is you spotted this facade quickly and will not return for his scam...er hrmmm services.

There are many valid and proficient readers around... the trick is be a wise consumer and shop around.

If you want to learn how a lot of psychics operate, study sales...it's all there...all the psychological tricks that make it possible for people to sell useless crap to people who don't even need it are typically employed by so-called psychics...

but that's just a numbers game. there's real people out there too, just not as many of them. money confuses the issue in many ways. when you find a psychic who doesn't actually charge for their services but will accept donations without judgment you may be on to something...

or you could just throw the dice yourself and learn how to interpret things. It sounds like you are at least halfway there already...

Yeah, unfortunately, a lot of "psychics" use things that you tell them to go off on an "accurate" reading. It reminds me of Non Sequitor cartoon about a psychic talking to some people in the audience and saying "I hear from a Bob. Anyone looking for a Bob?" to which is replied "Yes". Then he says that Bob is lost or gone. To which they reply "How does he do this?". All the while they are wearing T-shirts that say "We miss you Bob". LOL

Just for future reference, a good psychic doesn't ask many questions at all. They ask why you are there and that's about it. Then they leave the intrepretations up to what the cards or crystals or whatever form of divination they are using tell them. Often times, it may not have anything to do with the reason you are there in the first place.

Thanks for the insight. I consider myself quite good with psychology, after I'd thought about it the next day and had a chance to think about the stuff which was said I realised I'd been conned.

I'm into tarot cards and crystals and things myself, my aunty got me into them and I'm learning gradually how to do interpretations for myself. I've not been feeling so good recently though so I don't like to try and do readings for myself or anybody else until I've got my head together.

Thanks!
