Aeonics: classic or dud?

This might be too general, but I thought I'd do something different from my usual rambling ass posts. Since I think "Crowley" when I see the word "Aeon" (followed closely by Peter Carroll), I figured Ceremonial would be the best place to post this.

How do you feel about Aeonics?

It is true in a symbolic sense. It is mere awarness of the cycles of our existance and adapting symbology to it in order to better understand and calculate its occurances.

Once you understand this then it is not so difficult to accept whatever 'Aeon' you may be existant in. As you know it is only a stage which leads to infinite others and not a constant stagnation. Hence you continue your own Will alongside these changes, but that Will can never be against the Aeon in the same manner as one cannot go against nature. Going against an Aeon is like going against a hurricane, but much worse.

I suppose it is too early to predict what comes after the Aeon of Horus... or do you believe it is just cyclic?

Some say Maat is the next symbolic form. The Book of the Law has Hrumachis after Horus. How will it come about and what is it's Law? We will not be able to know until a Magus carrying the word comes. It is said that this happens every 2000 years, but I believe it can be much longer or shorter depending on the speed at which humanity evolves realization.

The term "Aeon" relates to the precession of the Great Astrological Year (approx. 26 000 years) wherein the Sun (appears to) move backward through the twelve signs of the zodiac - hence each Aeon is 26 000 divided by 12 = 2166 years.

In terms of magick, each Aeon has a particular "flavour" or formula whereby the energies of the Aeon may be accessed, and is represented generally by an Egyptian deity which encapsulates this energy.

I (personally) find it quite amusing to read of the various concurrent and future Aeons...let's see - we have Horus, Maat, Set, Satan, Pan, Babalon...and that's just to name a few.... Hell. the Aeon of Horus was not yet 100 years old before some jokers were announcing the superseding of Horus.

One may also like to consider the 'aeons' of the Olympic Spirits. Each is said to 'rule' for 490 years. We are currently under the 'rule' of Ophiel, spirit of Mercury until the year 2390.

What about the astrological signs? I find this a little confusing, Horus seems to coincide with the idea of Aquarius, just as descriptions of the Osiris era seemed to coincide with the Age of Pisces? Is it correct to correlate one to the other?

I thought Horus is part of this fiery age, and you say it's Aquarius.:O
