Forum system upgrade

Post by Vashta »

Hello all. As you've probably noticed, the forum system has now been upgraded to a fully fledged forum system. This has happened for a number of reasons, for example the user profiles on the old system which never really worked properly, and a number of other bugs and glitches which we never really got to the bottom of.

Additionally, the old system was making the forum incredibly slow, and a fully-fledged forum system will handle volumes of traffic like we get much much better than the old system.

Unfortunately, I don't think your avatars were copied over in the process, and you will most likely need to upload them again. But, on the plus side, at least you can upload avatars now, lol.

Sorry for the trouble, hope it works out for the best all round.

Ahh, I'm very familar with phpBB, I ran these on my website for a political simulator I played. You should be able to find some very nice skins, the only trouble I had was making sure they didn't break any nice plugins you use.

Hopefully working now (fingers crossed)

I've got some cleanup to do with the old forum system, and obviously work on the template here, but I think the migration went reasonably so far...

Except that I think everyone lost their avatars :(

I was never able to migrate properly even though I knew phpBB pretty well, just something always went wrong and ended up starting from scratch, so kudos to a migration gone well. Question, did the site crash and you had to do this, or was this planned? I would have liked to been able to salvage some of my PM's.

Update: http://www.occultforum.org/ still has the old site...I was able to get my PM's from this. However, someone was still able to send me a PM via that old forum. Eventually having two forums at one address may be complicated and confusing.

Yeah, sorry I left it half-done yesterday, it was a busy one for me, I've done some clean-up now, removed the old database structure, changed the component to redirect here. I'm going to do some work on the template next, and look for a mediawiki plugin if such a thing exists..
