1. After the evocation of the archangels, when I do the kaballistic cross again, I notice that i enter a trance. Can anyone tell me why this is so?
2. At the end of the ritual before dismissing the energies and spirits or right after the evocation, is it a good idea to add requests pertaining to protection and healing and to direct them at the archangels? will they actually listen to these? I ask because i know nearly nothing about evocation and this seems like a shortcut to the more complicated procedures found in different places.
3. Can anyone recommend a simple book on evoking angels?

2. It won't hurt. Praying is just one form of releasing your desire. You can insert either personal prayers or the lords prayer. Just don't be to direct and command them to do your biddings. [thumbup]
3. Aaron Leitch would be my start. Donald michael kraigs modern magick is pretty much the benchmark but you might already have it.

Re: Questios about lbrp and evocation
Hello Dirge32,
There are just a few points I would like to add to what has already been said. Properly speaking (there will be some dispute about this) what you Invoke is what you are calling 'down' and what you Evoke you are calling 'up.' You evoke the 72 demons of the Goetia but you invoke the 72 angels of the Shem HaMephorash or the 4 Archangels of the Elements.
How can you do this? There are two ways: one is the use of the Almadel and the second is the use of Invoking Pentagrams.
The Almadel:

Don't be crestfallen that you don't have all the fancy equipment. I have done this successfully on the fly and your intention is much more important. I like the look of the Almadel and it is very mysterious but the incense is distracting to me.
Invoking Pentagrams:

What I mainly use are the Invoking Pentagrams. You can do this by performing the Lesser Invoking Ritual of the Pentagram, then asking God's assistance and turn to the direction of the Archangel you are invoking and visualize his sigil or a symbol for him. Use the invoking pentagram for that Element. You have to vibrate the name. This is the most basic form and there can be slight variations on this. If you are entering into a trance state that is important. That is where the communication happens.
Some will again disagree with me on this point, but, you need to keep in mind what these entities are and respect them. Your attitude is very important because they will respond to that. Even if you are unable to see them, thank them for their presence and express gratitude to them. In dealing with the angels/devas this is critical and you should not treat this like a business deal or worse try and command them but offer positive energy to them with the intention that you wish to give more than to take. I suggest you tell them you wish to work with them to better yourself and to grow in all aspects of your life then ask their aid to help transform their respective Elements in your self. Work on building a connection with them.
Also, after an invocation you do not do a banishing ritual to send them away. You tell them that the work is done and thanking them again give them leave to depart.

Re: Questios about lbrp and evocation
It has been my experience that any invocation can light up the astral enough to attract astral nasties. This is why you banish after invocation, not to banish what you have invoked.
My understanding of the difference between invocation and evocation is that in invocation you are calling the spirit to manifest within you, and in evocation you are calling the spirit to manifest outside you, usually in the triangle. Some may disagree, however. You can invoke a demon. It's called possession.
