Am I Seeing Visual Snow or Prana/Chi?
I took the advice of another user on here and started to take up flying phoenix chi kung. I could not find any teachers of it in my area, so I ordered a DVD with grandmaster Doo Wei as the teacher. Immediately when I started to do the exercises, I noticed the colored "static" in the air that I normally see intensify...its as if the "static colors" started expanding into colored bubbles. This specifically happened during the breathing exercises. I wondered if the technique was either:
1) Making my "visual snow syndrome" worse, or
2) Genuinely helping me see the energy field better.
I started this topic because I am not sure how to tell the difference between prana/chi in the air and "visual snow" syndrome, which is where you basically see static in the air all the time.
I wonder if I have been seeing prana all this time and the chi kung just intensified it, or if I've been having visual snow syndrome and the chi kung made it worse.
I had thought for a long time that I could naturally see prana, but then when I read about visual snow, I started to assume it was just a medical condition...how do you tell the difference?
In the Wikipedia article on Visual Snow, they describe it as white or gray static. What I see is colored / rainbow static that moves in a pulsating pattern when I concentrate. Could that difference mean anything?
Basically, I am unsure of whether I am seeing energy or if my eyes are just playing tricks with me...how can you know?
Thanks.

Re: Am I Seeing Visual Snow or Prana/Chi?
You can tell the difference between visual conditions and genuine clairvoyance by simply closing your physical eyes.
Clairvoyance has nothing to do with physical eyesight, it works by shifting your awareness to the eyes of the soul (astral/energy body), so you can consciously see what the soul naturally sees all the time. Since neither the soul nor the things that it sees are physical, you should still be able to see through that sight if you close your physical eyes. You must also be mindful of an overactive imagination, Analytical Overlay and other such things in that regard, but if you've cultivated a sufficient degree of mental discipline that shouldn't be an issue. It can also be verified easily enough, because walking around with your eyes closed while still seeing everything is a simple test to do.
Qi Gong and other forms of energy work that create a big charge of internal energy can cause all sorts of issues. The visual snow, flashing lights, muscle twitching, heat that can become almost feverish, hair standing on end...electronic interference, and other things depending on the quantity and quality of energy being handled. A lot of the visual and mental things can be safely ignored, and most of the physical symptoms (the twitching, heat, etc) are considered signs of progress - energy is working its way through the system, burning out toxins and blockages. Most systems of Qi Gong have entire lists of positive and negative signs of progress.
Just work through it and you'll be fine, but don't practice too much. There's a thing called Qi Gong Sickness, which can occur in any system of serious energy work really, and you might want to look it up so you understand why slow and steady wins in this sort of work.

Which exercises are you practicing?
Also I wasn't aware that there was a DVD series taught by GM Doo Wai, only of the Qi Gong for Health series by Sifu Dunn (GM Doo Wai's student) on taichimania.com. Where did you obtain the DVD's, if you don't mind my asking?
If you want more extensive information on the FP system, I highly recommend reading this thread: http://thetaobums.com/topic/12639-flyin ... -chi-kung/
It's a long read, I know (although much of it can be flicked through), but Sifu Dunn (the current lineage holder for FP) is a regular contributor, answering questions from practitioners about flying phoenix and energy work/spirituality in general. There's as much knowledge in that thread as any book on the subject, if you sift through it, and he discusses the specific effects of the FP system and the various exercises extensively.
As for your question in particular - my tentative guess would be is that what you're experiencing is in fact the first stages of emerging clairvoyance, because your experiences match mine almost exactly. At first it started out as flashes/distortions/radiations of color and vibration while practicing, especially coming off my body. Then it expanded to the "visual snow" effect you're describing - a faint white glow hanging in the air and radiating off some objects, especially people and plantlife, along with swirls of white sparks in the sky during daytime (which also has a scientific name and various bio-chemical theories ascribed to it - but then again, so do more or less any of the more common spiritual experiences). At this stage, like you, I wondered if what I was experiencing was spiritual in nature or just a visual problem, even though the intensity of these effects correlated exactly with my practice (that is, they were nonexistent before I started practicing, and on a daily basis would fluctuate, being strongest directly after practicing and then slowly fading, although the intensity of the effects would increase over time).
It was only when the effect intensified and I started seeing brighter flashes of color, generally coming off myself or other people out of the corner of my eye, sometimes in the form of bright golden-white auras surrounding other people, that I settled on the spiritual answer.
That said, I can't speak for what you're experiencing in particular, especially as you referred to it as "making [your] visual snow syndome worse," implying you had a pre-existing visual problem. All I can say is that honestly, it's not a big deal. Just keep practicing, if you're getting a side effect, it will fade, and if you keep up a regular routine, eventually your spiritual senses will open up by themselves and become dramatic enough that you'll know without a doubt what you're experiencing. Don't stress it too much, just keep up a steady practice (Shinichi gave good advice about not going overboard) and the rest will take care of itself.

Re: Am I Seeing Visual Snow or Prana/Chi?
Thank you for telling me about that thread: I will definitely go through it.
I ordered Doo Wai's DVD from Amazon, although he also has it on what seems to be his own website. Here is the link to exactly where I bought it from:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008QPY4ZI/
If the link doesn't work, just go to amazon and search "level 2 flying phoenix Doo Wai" or something like that, it should come up.
I could only find the level 2 DVD. I hope to find the other level DVDs soon, because they are marked as "not available" on his website.
I have come to suspect that it may not be visual snow that I am seeing. I did some research and found the following:
- Colored visual snow is very rare, and
- There have been no documented cases of visual snow being affected by activities.
Being that this was colored and was affected by my activities with the chi kung...I'm thinking I may be just seeing energy, not visual snow. I found various posts on Spiritual Forums, Spirit Science forums, etc. asking questions about the connection between visual snow and seeing energy.

Don't know why I keep misspelling his name as Wei...

Re: Am I Seeing Visual Snow or Prana/Chi?
I've never seen that version, although I remember reading in the thread I linked that there are videos of GM Doo Wai performing some of the FP exercises being sold without official sanction (The GM himself never released any formal training videos that I've heard of, only allowed some of his students to do so). Perhaps that's what you've purchased. Does it include the numbers for the breathing percentages at the beginning of each exercise?
Anyway, volumes 1 - 6 can be found at http://www.taichimania.com/chikung_catalog.html
If you're going to keep going with FP I highly recommend grabbing the first two and starting with a combination of the standing and seated exercises (I used a routine of 2 of the standing exercises followed by one of the seated, then drifting into 10 or 15 minutes of void meditation to allow the energy to settle in and circulate, rotating through them daily to gain the benefits from each exercise).

Re: Am I Seeing Visual Snow or Prana/Chi?
I find that the visual snow that certain doctors claim to be a medical condition actually is the energy field we're seeing.
The static vision I see shows up in certain patterns, it isn't just random tv static on everything. It highlights the edges of technological objects and people, and occasionally I can see large chunks of "snow" floating in and out of plant matter.
From what I remember reading from the wiki, visual Snow is information that isn't necessary, that our brain usually blocks out. But I'm pretty sure it took a lot of video games, computer screens, and ADHD medicine before it started being blocked out of my eyesight. I saw similar styles of snow as a child, and in my late-formative years, it dissipated, along with a lot of my younger memories. As I've experimented with hallucinogens and practiced meditation and other magick preparation techniques, it has returned over 100 fold.
However, the more I attempt to see this energy, and the deeper I gaze into it, the quicker I feel my eyesight being sealed, and taken away from me.

Re: Am I Seeing Visual Snow or Prana/Chi?
Back off honestly back up a bit because you shouldn't be losing something to see it. I see it and the world around me in a balance. I have changed the color and focused it many times before. I can turn an entire room blue and manipulate the energy to protect me. However hearing that your losing your sight to see in it is horrifying. You really shouldn't be loosing anything at all it's just lose energy that's either stagnant or dissipating.Haelos wrote:However, the more I attempt to see this energy, and the deeper I gaze into it, the quicker I feel my eyesight being sealed, and taken away from me.
That's at least how I have learned to understand it and I use it for my energy work because it's easily programmed and collected. Losing your sight shouldn't be happening unless your forcing it or doing something that is resulting in not developing it naturally.
I once watched someone perform reiki on a lady and I knew them both. I saw sparks of gold energy release from the women's leg where the process was being performed and float out into the mass of excess energy. The color dissipated and the energy turned clear having dissipated but energy doesn't die so it became stagnant and there without reason or direction. The energy in the room moved a bit faster then the energy in other areas of the house.
I once left a spiritual group because they freaked me out energy wise. They are very good people but for some reason had an obsession with the color white being pure. Nothing is truly pure to me and the fact that the room was so blank made me want to leave it often. It literally had all white energy and the creepy part to me was they seemed to have forced the static away from themselves and against the walls. I like being connected to the static and I like being surrounded by it. It's how I understand my environment and learn things if I need to and be so exposed in an environment where I didn't have that advantage freaked me out.
Eventually I figured out how to cope in that environment but I didn't want to fight their mass conception of purity and just left the group. To be honest those people have some obvious issues in their lives. They are allowing spirits to posses them and worshiping dead ancestors for advice and guidance. While that is normal the combination of the white forced energy and the creepy trust in people who passed pushed me away. I mean honestly the dead should pass on and continue their lives because no one is perfect and their advice might not even count for you because of the different time period so I don't honestly get it.
Back on topic you shouldn't be losing anything to see it in fact you should be gaining something from it. It sounds like a subconscious switching to be honest. Like your switching one form of sight for another...
I could have misunderstood and I didn't mean to offend if I did. I tend to ramble ...
