Consecrations of amulets.
Consecrations of amulets.
I know how to consecrate amulets/medalions in pogan or quabbalah methods but what about rdy amulets (from shop) like pentagram (should deff u from evil spirits). I heard 2 versions, first - they takes power when u are just wearing them so eveyone can use them and they are same powerfull for everyone. But some ppl say symbols dont have any power if u dont consecrate them. So what i should do? How can i "power" them when its not a home made talisman?

Are you hearing voices? These runes and gadgets will not protect you form anything. Tell me of the spirits you are dealing with and the things you are experiencing.

Re: Consecrations of amulets.
All natural materials in the material world have certain physical and metaphysical properties which anyone can craft into certain pieces of jewelry or similar things. Various symbols, be they Norse Runes or Kanji, also have their own natural properties and specific expressions of energy. When these materials and symbols are crafted into a single thing, in a certain way, and designed to suit a certain purpose (be it making you more attractive, turning you invisible, or protecting you from nasty experiences), we call that piece of jewelry or item of similar description an amulet - as it can be worn. We can also simply write such spells on a piece of paper, or something else, and use it as a basic talisman - the practice definition of talismanic magick being the practice of binding spells to objects in order to magically empower or "enchant" them. Chaote Sigils are a common talisman, as are the Magic Squares of Abramelin, certain forms of Rune Magick, the Daoist Fu or Shinto Ofuda, and several other such things.BoldRune wrote:I know how to consecrate amulets/medalions in pogan or quabbalah methods but what about rdy amulets (from shop) like pentagram (should deff u from evil spirits). However, while these materials and symbols do have their own natural properties and energies, we also need to initiate a "charge" in order to activate the desired purpose, to weave together all the different energies and symbols into a single force, a single spell serving your intended purpose. This charge is the spark that takes the innate base substances in a well crafted amulet or talisman, and ignites them into a radiant flame - your spell, the enchantment. Without this spark, a well crafted amulet will still exert a certain influence, but it will not be as potent as it could be with a proper charge.
And there are many ways to charge any kind of spell, from direct energy control and volition to using other bits of natural magick and alchemy. And with proper training, you can create a magical charge in anything, from a ring to a glass of water to your entire home. It's just a matter of training, skill, and creativity.
Dismissing an entire field of magical practice is not particularly wise. I can tell you from experience that well made runes, amulets, and other enchanted items can be very powerful. Made and used correctly, they can indeed offer great protection. Made and used correctly, they can likewise offer great harm. Power comes in many forms, and can be applied in many ways.powessy wrote: These runes and gadgets will not protect you form anything.

Re: Consecrations of amulets.
I have had thirty years of practice with many things in the way of paranormal. I can not in the life of me understand these thoughts of rocks(you call them runes) and burning or spreading of herbs. The power of these items are only in the minds of those that want to believe in them. The witch wants a broom, cat and a wand, but none of these items hold any true power. A priest will wave his cross and dip from his cask of holy water to push away evil but it will do him no good. A dark spirit holds no more value for the rock then what it is, a rock. I am sorry but I deal with many dark entities, shadows, Satan and Gods at least in their minds and not once have i been in need of a rock or rune to save me from them. I can accomplish more with my own mind then all these things combined.Shinichi wrote:

Re: Consecrations of amulets.
I didn't say it was necessary, just that it's a mistake to dismiss it because you don't need or want it.
Every material and every rune (which is much more than the rock upon which it is carved, I assure you) does have its own unique physical and metaphysical properties, and an educated and trained practitioner can take advantage of this. Some call it Natural Magick, some call it Alchemy, others call it all kinds of things, but it is there and it can be useful. Whether or not you need to is a matter of skill, and whether or not you want to is a simple matter of preference, but saying its correct application does not work is something I will have to disagree with. Genuine, traditional Natural Magick is one of the most powerful forms of practice I have yet encountered, most especially when the external powers of nature properly merge with the internal powers of the craftsman who weaves them.

Re: Consecrations of amulets.
Well I think people often confuse several different practices when it comes to this subject.BoldRune wrote:I know how to consecrate amulets/medalions in pogan or quabbalah methods but what about rdy amulets (from shop) like pentagram (should deff u from evil spirits). After you buy an object you can choose to cleanse it. This removes any bad energy left in the item. It also resets the item to "level zero"
Next step is to purify it. This makes the item pure and good.
Then you consecrate it. Consecration is to make sure that an object has a purpose or service. This changes the amulet from a piece of jewelry to an actual tool.
The last step is to charge it with power.
------
A consecration cermony/ritual differs from every tradition. But it can be something as simple as just holding the item in your hand and stating the purpose of it. "this amulet is ONLY to protect the wearer from evil".
This make a sort of "magical promise". As long as you only use it for good, it will remain good. But if you use it as a bottle opener or hit somebody with it, it will loose it's power.
Same thing with holy water, it,'s just water. but it's consecrated for a specific purpose, if the priest gets thirsty and takes a sip out of it he has technically desecrated it. He has turned it back into just water.

Powessy, no need to be rude or speak for witches, which you're not.
Perhaps, you have not but there are others that do. For some - they're training wheels. For others - it's just how they work.
There are many specialty fields, Talents and Gifts. This is where all the people arguing over Elitism comes from. Or like saying that High Magick is better than Low. They're different - that's for certain, but bettor or worse? According to whom?
Have you truly never run into a Talented priest? Or one who has Spiritual Authority whether he's holding a cross or not? Granted, they're more rare now than they were a couple decades ago but they still exist.
Have you truly never seen a talisman blessed by such a priest? They call them medallions and usually have pictures of Saints on them. I've seen laypeople wield that power to 'bless' (magically change and charge) items when a priest was unavailable.
Perhaps, you've been swimming in the dark for too long.

I have been an atheist from the moment I was born. I have never even encouraged the idea of a god let alone the power of priests or saints. I have never had an idol or even looked up to someone in an admiring way, People are people, we are what we are. I have spent my life just having fun learning and trying to understand myself, only letting in those that i have allowed to get close to me. the whole spirituality thing is confusing to me and many of the ones I have talked to are no more connected to things then I am. I hear voices 24/7 and I have things touching me all the time entering into me and yet I feel no fear or have a need for help. I have many things that swim on my side of the pool with me in the dark but yet I find no need for things that are not of myself. I like the dark as it makes me feel safe.
I have meet the shadows and know full well their power they hold within them, I know that many thoughts of power are because of them and they contribute to many of these sites. I think the mind is what we should be empowering and not rocks for my mind is very powerful along with my soul, so many more times then any thing outside of me. These trinkets can hold thoughts of power as we grasp for them in hopes of being saved, but in the end it will come down to your mind that will save you from the things you fear.

Re: Consecrations of amulets.
The point of it is simple. Not everyone has talents or Power like us, and none of us who do are omnipresent. So the ability to magically charge a material object is practical and useful, since those of us with Power can simply give a little to the special object, and then it does a certain job without us having to offer another thought about it. From the very beginning of it to today, this is one of the most common reasons for talismanic Craft. The mind and power of the receiver is irrelevant. Once an object is properly charged, it is magical and it is doing something whether anyone believes it or knows about it or not.
It's fine if you don't care about it in your own practice, but it's rude to dismiss an entire field of practice simply because you don't need it or understand why other people find it interesting.

I used to play dungeons and dragons and many other role playing games that used many talismans incorporated in the games to gave the characters special powers. I have watched many movies and television series that portray special events through the use of talismans. As for real life I have seen nothing other then televangelists and their masses of wayward people. tell me what power could one achieve from having such tools, I just do not understand it or why it is needed? I know how weak the mind can be in many when we are faced with things we do not understand. In the military, I served in desert storm and just prior to occupation the clergy came around and handed out rosary beads and saint Michals pendants to the men. Do you think that pendant and beads actually worked for all these men?
No I have never seen or heard of a talisman saving or helping someone.

I guess I can not get over the power problem. You say not everyone has power like us, why don't they? What powers do you posses other then understanding, maybe we should be handing out books and not talisman. I think people are just unaware of things due to a society of people that keep us in blinders. I am not trying to dismiss your beliefs I just do not understand them.

Re: Consecrations of amulets.
Some people think everyone is naturally magical and special. Others think it's rare and those who have it are elitists. As far as I am concerned, both are wrong.
Different people are different. I can talk to spirits and casts spells, so I'm a magician/wizard/whatever. I can fight and hurt people if I have to, so I'm a martial artist (the old school, non-sport sort). I'm very articulate and word wise, so I'm a writer. I'm terrible at baking, even though I can make awesome skillet meals. No matter how skilled a fighter I am, I'll never be in the Olympics, because I'm terrible at sport. I'm not even that good at swimming, most of the time, unless I trance out and do this weird mermaid thing that's not really good for sport swimming. I'm very good at counseling people through hard times and offering advice, yet I suck at magically healing big illnesses. Different people are different, because everyone is a unique personality with unique perspectives, talents, interests, and skills.
Those of us who have spiritual Power, that is our talent and skill, and some people will just always suck at it even if they learn enough to handle basic work - like me and math, which is another thing I suck at. Certainly, many people are simply ignorant and culturally programmed these days, but it wasn't always like that. There were times when Power and Spirits were a basic fact of daily life, and in those times not everyone could wield such things. Priest (of the pre-christian variety) and Sorcerer were professions, like Blacksmith and Baker, because people with Power were different just like a genius Blacksmith or a genius Baker are different.
A genius Wizard may be a retarded Baker, and a genius Baker may be a retarded Wizard. Yet if you put them to their talents, they become genius. Anyone can do what they want, "free will" and all that, but everyone does have unique talents and this applies to Magick as much as it does anything else.
This is why talismans can, sometimes, be useful to those of use who are good at this sort of thing. By charging some item with Power, and charging that Power with Purpose, I can create an enchanted item that does magical work without my conscious interference - something I can then give to or trade with others, and it will still continue to function independent of me. It's kind of like starting a computer program and walking away. I know that as long as the power stays on and the computer stays running the program will stay running too, doing whatever it is I want done, and I don't have to sit at the computer while it's working. Which, again, is useful when we want to offer something magical to people who do not have it, or even when we just want to leave something running without having to pay attention to it or maintain it much. All of the jewelry I wear serves some purpose, for example.
Indeed, it's a context-specific craft, and it's not my default skill. It isn't really needed by someone who can just throw Power around with conscious control. I'm honestly much better at just brute forcing things like that (still learning that whole subtlety thing), but there is value in enchanted items. It is one of the oldest crafts, for there have always been sacred objects in every culture and tradition in the world.

I understand your thoughts here but many of these thoughts pertain to this side of things and not the other. Nothing happens on this side without traveling into the other and back. When I walk into an establishment feeling good many times the atmosphere will change also to good. Now I am not one that wears their feelings on their shirt so it would not show in me how I am feeling. what these people feel is not me they feel my soul it is my soul they hear and find happy or troubled. This ability to affect people with out them knowing it is not an ability that is taken lightly. i have effected many people in my life just by thoughts alone. I used to use brute force to solve problems within me but now I find that just flowing with things allows me to move mountains now. Find your mind, send your intent but be good not evil in your efforts, I have learned this the hard way. Be yourself only.
